This is a place just off the busiest street in
the InterNet. A place, I hope, for pause and reflection and not much else. |
The Sanctuary is dedicated to prayer,
meditation, and contemplation. It contains resources from the Christian
tradition. Prayers from the heroes of the faith; methods of bible study that are
meant to make our application of them intensely personal and minimally critical
of others; use of images as well as words which may take us beyond idolatry into
a deeper acquaintance with the still small voice within us. It contains a nearly
complete journey through the fasts and feasts of the Christian year, so that we
may deepen our understanding of our own lives in the light of His life. But
above all that, it is a place to come back to, and to be quiet in. It is for
those, who for one reason or another 'miss the church' the building itself - who
have been used to dropping in on their way to and from work, to sit for a while
when they've been out shopping. For people who want time out occasionally to
'visit with God' and to just sit and stare.
It has become bigger. It has become a community
now - to the extent that I am thinking of a parish roll and prayer list. Though
it is unlikely that we'll have a stewardship campaign this year (grin) so far
the Lord has provided. |
We need a place for silence, and a place to sit
out of the wind.
Don't be afraid that a sanctuary will be so
enticing that you will forget all the very real social and political needs of
those around you. If I know anything at about silence you will leave these doors
caring more, and caring more quietly than you did before. Perhaps more
efficiently too.
But that is not what this place is primarily for. |
Take some time to talk to Him. Let the words
and thoughts spill out. Your troubles, your joys, spill out into the blessed
silence. Perhaps, even now, you can smell the candles from the last service.
And before you leave,
Please pray for the unseen vicar, the
unseen visitors, who share this place with you,
Pray also for the Church and the World.
and
be blessed
