Baltimore
Inner Harbor
![](HARBOR.JPG) |
Participants
visited the Port of Baltimore and observed the workings
of the Seagirt and Dundalk marine terminals. At the
Dundalk terminal, participants were allowed to disembark
from their tour bus and view the cranes, cargo and marine
vessels from a close distance. Our tour of the port
of Baltimore was followed by a tour of the interior
of a large sailing ship- the USS Constellation. The
USS Constellation has been permanently docked at the
Baltimore Inner Harbor as it is being restored to its
former glory. Participants went below deck and learned
the workings of the ship's system of sails. Participants
took part in a demonstration of the turning of the sails
and also witnessed the firing of cannon balls. The USS
Constellation is the last all-sail warship built by
the US Navy and the only surviving Civil War era vessel
afloat.
