Lea Castle (prior
to 1945)
Lea Castle was built by the
iron-master Edward Knight in 1818.
Later the Brown-Westhead family
lived there, and provided work for
many Cookley residents. Unfortunately
the Castle was demolished in 1945.
The long wall and the gatehouses are
still much in evidence and form the
basis for the 'Round the Wall' race
which still features in village events -
the race was staged in 1999 as part
of a 'millennium madness day'.
