The Chakras

There are many energy points in the body, but there are seven main ones which are used in healing, protection, meditation, astral travel, everything really. These seven chakras each have particular colours and attributes. I'm only going to mention the basics on this page.

The one at the bottom of the spine (the base chakra) is a bright red. It is the centre for primal instincts passions of all kinds, fear, anger, etc. These emotions aren't bad in themselves, and the brighter the red of the base chakra, the more positive these primal emotions are. Without fear, we would all end up dead because we didn't show caution. Without anger we would not be able to defend ourself when attacked. It is not the emotion, but it's use that can be a problem. Cleansing the base chakra helps to release all the negative aspects of these primal emotions.

The second chakra is in the lower stomach area. This is the nurturing center and is orange. This is where our physical and emotional nurturing is based. Self love and sustainance come from this area. Cleansing it helps to improve feelings of self worth and also to help to stengthen the body.

The third chakra is in the main stomach, the solar plexus. This is yellow and is the centre of intuition and gut instinct. Have you noticed that people put their hands to this area when they have a shock or an inspiration. Without knowing it, they are adding more energy to their instinct and reaction centre.

The fourth chakra is the heart chakra. It is green. It goes without saying that this is the centre for emotions and love, as well as the physical heart. Some people split the two and think of the colour pink when dealing with the emotional heart. I don't actually agree. But it can be a good way of differentiating in healings.

The fifth is the throat chakra. This is the communication centre and is a bright sky blue. As with all the chakras, this one is connected to the physical body too. Often healers will tell someone with a sore throat to wear something sky blue. The same is said if a person has a big interview or other conversation/communication to get through.

The sixth is the third eye, positioned in the middle of the forehead. This is a deep indigo (dark blue) colour. This of course is the centre for insight. Cleansing this chakra helps to focus abilities and to improve vision on both the physical and spiritual plains.

The final chakra is the crown chakra at the crown of the head. This is violet in colour and is the link to spiritual awarness and ability.

As you read this, you will probably notice two things. The colours move upwards in the order of those in a rainbow, also, the further up the body you go, the more spirtiual the attributes become. This is an echo of the learning process. First we must be at ease with, and able to control our primal emotions, then we must have faith in ourselves, next we have to learn to notice and accept our instincts, then we have to be able to interpret them and our feelings about them, and then how to communicate them. Then we become able to see further and more clearly, until finally we connect with the etherial/spiritual world.

The best way to examine the chakras is to meditate, bringing energy from the earth up through each of the chakras in turn. Imagine the colours and the energy flowing into each chakra, empowering it. Before you end the meditation, make sure you go back down through the chakras and imagine them closing. Some people find it helps to imagine them as different coloured flowers at first. Opening and closing their petals. As with all meditations, make sure you wont be disturbed, and that you are comfortable and safe. If you don't have your own way of protecting yourself in meditation, imagine a bubble of violet and blue swirling energy engulfing you, forming a barrier around you. Sit inside this bubble throughout your meditation. It can be difficult at first, but when you get the hang of it, you will feel each chakra filling with energy. It is an amazing/invigorating experience. After you have closed all your chakras and ended the meditation, rub your hands together and rub your feet on the floor. This helps to ground you.

Take it easy at first. Just set aside about 15 mins/half an hour. It might be an idea to have something that will bring you back to Earth after that time. It can be so easy to get carried away with the energies and stay in meditation for hours.

Think about your favourite colours, and what colours you usually wear. Have a think about it and check against this information. Maybe you need to keep more of a cetain colour around you to help empower a particular chakra. Also, take notice if you have any troubles with empowering any of the chakras in meditation. You would be surprised at how problems with some aspects of life show so blatently when working with chakras.
