“This” objective provides a brief synopsis of my life through business cards (Authorless Text) using a de- and re-contextualization method. My objective is to tell a story that many people will be able to identify with in a way that cannot be told through the strict adherence of using text. The communication will be an exercise in multi-modal communication and interactive for the reader. In other words, the reader will not be a passive consumer of the text by simply reading, but will interact with the text by performing “actions” to obtain the communication: audio, video, text, and images. Sorry but I have yet to figure out how to produce smell, touch or taste through a monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Below is the collection of the Authorless Text (business cards) that I will be using to de-contextualize and re-contextualize into my tale of “Altered States, Analog to Digital: A brief synopsis of my life told through business cards."

The Altered States is a play on words and ideas and will encompass the following:

• Altered State 1: Having to re-educate myself from an “analog" world to a "digital" world, i.e., altered states of experience, constantly re-inventing myself to advance my pursuit of “life-long learning.”
• Altered State 2: Having to move from state to state in the Continental U.S. in order to pursue employment opportunities and a better life: an altered state of geography.
• Altered State 3: The varying emotional states we all have whether by our own reconnaissance or by circumstances we find ourselves in.

The reader will have to click on the hypertext below a business card, as an example Farmingdale Evening College and have a hypertext message that reads, “Click here if you feel stressed out." When the reader clicks on the hypertext, a new window will open providing a brief explanation of what was happening in my life when I obtained the selected business card.

As with the “Re-patent” communication objective, there will be many pages explaining the entire design of the communication.
