This will be a few paragraphs and a few old pictures of my immediate family.
My Grandparents |
|
This first picture is of my Grandparents on my Mothers side. Every time I look at it I think
of the Grant Wood painting, "American Gothic". I don't remember very much about them except that Grandpa played the violin and chewed tobacco and he used to sit on his back porch and shoot at the birds in his garden with a home made sling shot. I think I was a little afraid of them. Their names were Thomas and Isabelle (Hunter) Thornley. |
My Mother | |
To the left is a picture of my Mother being surprised in her own
kitchen. I think
this picture was taken while I was in the Navy (1964-1968) but I am not sure. My Mother is named Esther and she was born in Duboise, Pennsylvania in 1910. The photo below was taken in 1982. |

My Dad | ||||
|
Here is a photo of my Dad. It was taken in Idaho when he was in the C.C.C. There was no date on the picture but I think it is from the 1940's. I have a lot of fond memories of my Dad. He built the house we lived in (and were all born in). I remember sitting in his lap while he sang "Casey Jones" or "Old Shep" and I'd cry until I went to sleep. The next night I'd ask him to sing them again. I still remember most of the words to those songs as well as the famous There was an old woman and she could do. The words were simple and it had a lovely sentiment at the end. Dad was named Floyd. |
June | |
This next is of my sister June with the family groundhog J. Chuck. June is the one on the left. |
This is a picture taken a few years ago at one of our family reunions. It shows my brother Chuck (no relation to Johhny Chuck), my sister June (holding her grand daughter, Jaclyn Cheryl Becker) and me on the right..
The Whole Bunch | ||
This was taken at the last family reunion we had From left to right it shows: Me, Mom, Chuck, June, Esther and Nancy. Missing from this photo is my other sister Isabelle but then she always was. I look forward to these reunions which take place about every 10 years or so, give or take a few years. |
