This is the 250 Hits picture I drew for the site. I'm really happy with how the shading and highlighting turned out! Not much to say about this. I used the usual pens and colored on Photoshop. For the highlighting, I used a paintbrush instead of selecting an area and lightening it. The shading was done the same way for the armor. The face shading was done with the selection tool and then darkening the selected area. This was easier for the face since there was much more detail than the other parts of the body. I think I finally got X's proportion correct this one, with respect to his legs. They're the size of the rest of his body, LOL.
This one is a cute change of pace. You can see the back here. After seeing someone post a picture of a Protoman/Blues puppet, I decided I wanted my own!! So I made one myself! This one is made in about two/three days (most of which was getting the materials.) Mega is very flat. He's made of felt (6 sheets at 20 cents each) and some different kind of felt with a self adhesive back (1.29 a sheet), and the black on his body and detail (except for his face) was fabric paint painted on with a fine hard brush (4 dollars for the brush, 1.29 for the fabric paint). His face is made by using an HP Inkjet transfer. I made a prototype of him (see the front and back of the paper prototype). After failing on making his face using fabric paint alone, I decided to just scan the prototype's face in the scanner at the VERY high resolution 1200DPI and colored it on Photoshop. Next I printed out pic on the HP Inkjet transfer paper (14.99 for a pack of 10) and ironed it on the felt with an adhesive back. The original idea was to stick it on, but the felt was quite thin, and the blue of the helmet showed through the face, so I kept the paper backing on, so his face is kind of stiff. I glue gunned all the parts together as how it was assembed in my paper prototype. The project was quite expensive since I had to buy a glue gun, the glue, and all the aformentioned stuff. The next one will be much cheaper to make since I don't have to do so much trial and error, and buy all the durable material. A very nice thing to make. I'll take it to my next anime convention with me.
This is a quickie halloween pic. Nothing much to say, except I had this image of X and some cats... aren't they cute evil cats? Meh heh heh. Um... otherwise, I did this the usual method, except I was experimenting a bit with gradients for shading (using select tool on a certain area on his armor, then applying a gradient with a darker tone for the shading.) It's kind of weird looking... I'll work on that technique some more later. I was sort of going for a US comic look, but it didn't quite turn out that way... did it? Oh well, trial and error
This is my second attempt at using screentones, the transparent papers with printed dots on them that manga artists use. It's a lot of fun to use, but it's very hard as well. Meep. I was working on a full color photo of this, but decided it would be fun to try screentone for once instead of staring at the computer screen for a couple of hours CGing it. The screentones are about 4 dollars a sheet (ACK!) but I used 1/6 of two sheets, so it's not overly expensive... I drew this on paper, scanned it, then printed it out on Manga Paper (the surface is much smoother, making it the screetone stick to it much better!) For the gradient on the tones, I used an eraser to make places lighter. I used the same weight screentone for his armor and his bodysuit, but erased the armor parts to make it lighter (because it's supposed to be lighter than his bodysuit.) Hope to try this more soon.
