Also, a half-year prior, Princess Gwaelin was kidnapped by the enemy. You must also rescue her, for you two will make future descendants of Erdrick (which means more sequels).
Do not venture too far from the castle until you reach about level three. Then you are able to travel to Garinham, which is northwest of Tantegel, and Kol, which is northeast of Tantegel. Once you get the spell Radiant, you should go to Erdrick's Cave.
After that is accomplished, go through the Mountain Cave, and then go to Hauksness, defeat the Knight, and get you Erdrick's Armor. You can also go to Cantlin (make sure you have the Fairy Flute, which you can acquire a few steps below the fountain in Kol) and defeat the Golem.
Next, I would go to Rimuldar, which is the last town to cover (as long as you hit all the above). You will need three key items to make the Rainbow Bridge to access Charlock Castle, your final battleground. The Stones of Sunlight (which are found in Tantegel), the Staff of Rain (can be found in the Northern Cave, which is east and a little north of Kol), and the Rainbow Drop (can be acquired in the Southern Cave).
The Erdrick's Tokin can be found seventy south and forty east of Tantegel. In other words, it is in the poison southeast of Cantlin.
Gwaelin can be found in the cave connecting the continent of Kol to the continent of Rimuldar. However, you will need to battle a Green Dragon, which is no easy task.
