John Hawkes Biography - Or something like it.
JOHN HAWKES has been in numerous films and television programs, including "Deadwood", "Me and You and Everyone We Know", "HardBall," "Buttleman," "Identity", "The Perfect Storm," "Where's Marlowe?" and "A Slipping Down Life." Hawkes hails from Alexandria, Minnesota and began his career in Austin, Texas. He is also a musician. Hawkes was a member of a punk band in the 80's (1982 - 1986 to be specific) called 'Meat Joy.' He was known as John Boy Perkins in the band. Hawkes continues to be active in the music scene, in his band Gangster Folk, and his new band, King Straggler.
Hawkes was a founding member of Austin's Big State Productions theater company, and has appeared on stage in several productions, including a play he wrote, a one-man show called "Nimrod Soul (1994)," which he performed at L.A.'s Theatre at the Improv.
John Hawkes also wrote sequences to "In the West," a theater production that later became the feature film "Deep in the Heart (Of Texas)" (1998). He performed with the touring company at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Plaza Theatre in Dallas, Texas. Hawkes appeared as "Ellard" in "The Foreigner," at the Paramount Theater in Austin, Texas. Other theater productions include "Greater Tuna," "Streamers," "The Imaginary Invalid" and "Buried Child." He was most recently onstage in his home town in a production of "Harvey" (July 2001).
Hawkes is currently seen on HBO's Deadwood, as well as such programs as "Strange Frequency" (2001), "The X-Files," "The Practice" and "E.R.," as well as "Millennium," and "The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr." He can drool on command. That's a plus for anybody. There is very little information about this actor available on the Internet.
There is a list of film work here, and a list of television work here. Those two pages are intended for you, the fabulous audience to post your own reviews. The IMDB also has a listing, and I provide the link at the bottom of this page, and on the Film and TV work pages.
If you have more information to provide, such as current projects, films that are not in the IMDB site listings, Let me know.
I have broken down the bio in point form. I say apparently because I don't know Mr. Hawkes.
- John Hawkes birth name is John Perkins
- He currently resides where all the casting agents are: Los Angeles, CA.
- He has blue eyes.
- He may have dark brown hair, but hey, he's an actor. These things change.
- I have no idea how tall he is. But some hawk-eyed people have guessed about 5' 9".
- According to the National Post, in 2000, John Hawkes was 'thirty-something.' A non-english site, lists his birthyear as 1925 (!). (OK, I know this is the writer John Hawkes, The guy who wrote The Blood Oranges.) IMDB lists his birth year as 1959. Take your pick.
- Apparently, John Hawkes is a decent softball player.
- John Hawkes is an excellent musician. He plays guitar and drums, sings. He is also a songwriter. He wrote and performed his songs in Nimrod Soul. About 1,000 Meat Joy albums may be floating around out there. He also has his own band, Gangster Folk. He spent time in Austin, Texas learning how to play the drums for A Slipping Down Life.
- He originally wanted to be a wrestler.
- Hawkes can ride horses and the metal hogs known as motorcycles.
- He does not have a computer. That means he isn't the computer geek guy either, so he knows nothing about 'spinlock metering.'
- He geek-laughs like no other. Don't believe me? Check out The Perfect Storm.
- He drools like no other. (Wild Child character, In The West and Fantasy Island: Secret Self.)
- He has been in a ton of films, TV episodes, Movies of the week, movie
specials
on cable, and straight to video. For a slightly inaccurate listing of his work, CLICK HERE to visit the IMDB. - He was apparently in Bicentennial Man, a film that starred Robin Williams, but I couldn't stand the film long enough to play the John Hawkes version of 'Find Waldo'.
- Hawkes can handle comedy and intense drama beautifully.
- He is chameleon-like in that he doesn't look the same in each role. Check out the darkrooms to see what I mean.
- There is no official mailing address for this guy. However . . . .
- According to the Hollywood Reporter, Hawkes is represented by Innovative
Artists. Thank you to the wonderful Robbin for contributing this address:

- He almost always plays people who die. Not always. Almost.
Thank you to the generous Julie for the image.
