The Quigley Family

The John Columbus Quigley Family





John Columbus Quigley was born around 1817 in Morgan County, Ohio. He was the son of John Quigley, Jr. and Ellen Corner.

Oh April 6, 1840 in Rosseau, Morgan County, Ohio, John C. Quigley married Emily Smith.

Emily Smith Quigley was born in April of 1819 in Maryland. Her parents are still a mystery. They are listed as being foreigners in the 1885 Davis County, Iowa State Census.

Sometime between 1843 and 1845, John C. Quigley moved his family from Morgan County, Ohio to Salt Creek township, Davis County, Iowa. According to a census taken in 1850, he worked as a farmer.

On June 23, 1872, John C. Quigley died in Floris, Davis County, Iowa. He is supposed to be buried in Pierce Cemetery near Floris, Davis County, Iowa. In June of 1874, William Quigley, Sr., the oldest son, was appointed guardian of his two youngest brothers, J. Marcellus and Frank, and youngest sister Rhoda, due to the untimely death of his father.

On February 16, 1907 in Eldon, Wapello County, Iowa, Emily Smith Quigley died. She is supposed to be buried with her husband in Pierce Cemetery, near Floris, Davis County, Iowa.
