The Corner Family

The George Corner, Jr Family





George Corner, Jr was born on July 22, 1769 in Chelford, Cheshire Co., England. He was christened on Aug. 20, 1769. His parents were George Corner, Sr and Martha Dumville.

On Nov. 15, 1791, he married Ann Clark in England. After they were married, George and Ann Corner opened a hotel called "The New Inn." They resided here until they moved to America in 1795.

In 1795, they, along with a large group of Corner kin, obtained passage on a ship named Minerva headed to America. They landed in Baltimore, Maryland about nine weeks later.

The large Corner group headed to Pittsburgh and floated down the Ohio River. They eventually arrived at Marietta, Ohio.

The George Corner, Jr family settled on Wolf Creek about five miles from Beverly, Ohio.

About the year 1803, George Corner, Jr became sick. He and his family went to New York City seeking medical help. On their return trip home a couple years later, George Corner, Jr and his daughter Minerva died. They are said to have been buried near Cookstown, Pennsylvania.

Ann Clark Corner married George Nulton on March 18, 1806 in Washington County, Ohio. They had seven children.

Ann Clark Corner Nulton died on Sept. 4, 1842 in Union township, Morgan County, Ohio and is buried in the Corner Cemetery there.
