... I've been corresponding with another researcher who is a descendant of a Mathis/Matthews line that both she and I believe is Roseannah Mathis, Giles Monzingo's wife, line. Giles was named administrator of Lodwick Mathews/Mathis's will, appointed guardian of Lodwick's two minor children and Giles and Roseannah named their son, Lodwick. Furthermore, Giles is names on many documents in connection with the Webb family. Another of Lodwick Matthews/Mathis's daughters married one of the Webbs.

I have taken this to be enough evidence to place Roseannah as one of Lodwick Matthews/Mathis's daughters.

My correspondent has done all her research in Georgia, as her ancestor, Terrissia Mathis, remained there. She offers the following items pertaining to Giles Monzingo. Maybe some of you are interested in this. The notes are hers.

1825 Washington Co., GA tax list, Capt. Tucker's Dist. (89th): Giles Mozingo is listed as paying one poll, owning no property. He is listed just 4 names away from Lodowick Mathis, indicating their close proximity at the time. Lewis Mozingo is not listed on this page of the tax list....

1838 Jan. 22nd, pg 28 of Inferior Court Minutes of Houston Co., GA: Giles Montzingo appt. guardian of William Webb in place of Cullen Webb, minor being of legal age made his choice of the change. Bond $3000 with Seaborn C. Bryan and Samuel Webb as security. (this is a definite further tie between Giles Monzingo and the Webb/Mathews families of Washington & Houston County GA).

1839 Jan, Washington Co., GA; Giles Mozingo is appointed adm. of estate of Lodowick Mathews, deceased.

1839 Oct., Washington Co., GA; Giles Mozingo is selling entire estate of Lodowick Mathews, deceased, to benefit heirs & creditors, on steps of courthouse in Washington County.

1839 Nov. 4, pg 48 of Inferior Court Minutes of Houston Co., GA: Giles Montzingo, Samuel Webb, Silas Rawls, Samuel Jenkins & Reubin Runnels appt. to appraise est. of Robert Law, deceased. Anthony M. Thompson appt. administrator. Bond $12,000 with Seaborn C. Bryan as security...

1841 Nov. 1, Houston Co., GA (Inferior Court Records 1836-1852, pp 74); "Maria Matthews, a minor orphan over age of 14 years applied for appointment of Giles Montzingo as her guardian. Court approved and also added John Matthews, both being orphans of Lodowick Matthews, late of Washington County, dec. Bond set at $500 with George Montzingo as security. (Note: Washington County records show Giles Mozingo was appointed administrator of Lodowick Matthews, dec., on 14 Jan 1839 and granted letters of dismission in Sep. 1843)." 1843 Houston Co., GA Inferior Court Minutes; Giles Montzingo & others appt. to appraise estate of Samuel Jenkins, deceased. Also Giles was later appointed to appraise estate of Moses Roundtree deceased, with Seaborn C. Bryan as administrator.

1844 Jan 1, Inferior Court Minutes of Houston Co., GA: Giles' name is mentioned along with others (one was Silas Rawls who appears with Giles in several other estate matters) to appraise estate of Edward Engram, deceased.

1844 May 6th, Inferior Court Minutes of Houston Co., GA; Giles Montzingo, Samuel Webb, Silas Rawls, Jacob Riley appt. to appraise estate of James Thompson, deceased. Asa Thompson appt. administrator.
