Llanrhystud
Concert
THE Morfa Singers,
Cantorion y Morfa, under their musical
director, Anne Sampson, gave their first
concert performance on Sunday in the
village church. The choir, founded just
over two years ago with a few local
singers has progressed from strength to
strength.
In spite of horrendous weather
conditions, a large audience thoroughly
appreciated disciplined and extremely
musical performances from the choir, ably
accompanied by Gwenan Morgan. Visiting
violinist Diana Dixon, leader of the
Bristol Elgin String Quartet, held the
audience spellbound. Marjorie Wheeler,
soprano, was outstanding. The vicar, Rev.
Julian Smith, and Jane McManus delighted
with a lighter touch, musically
accompanied by Anne, and the two young
performers, Ffiona Henson and Catrin
Woodruff aged 11, were a joy. Proceeds
were for the church fund.
Future engagements for the choir
include a concert in Llangybi in June,
one for Marie Curie in the autumn, a
competitive outing at Cardigan Eisteddfod
and other charitable commitments.
The choir would welcome more
ladies and also a soprano deputy
conductor. Rehearsals are held in the
church hall on Fridays and more details
can be obtained from Anne on 01974
202503.
