"When we look back, we do not remember the years, but the moments in our lives. We all have moments worth remembering and if worth remembering, then worth sharing, so as to nourish, inspire and give praise to the Almighty God".

~Fr. Jerry Orbos, SVD~

THE SENSE OF THE GOOSE

In the fall when you see geese heading south for the winter flying along in the "V" formation, you might be interested in knowing what science has discovered about why they fly that way. It has been learned that as each bird flaps its wings, it creates uplift for the bird immediately following. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds at least 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.

PEOPLE WHO ARE PART OF A TEAM AND SHARE A COMMON DIRECTION GET WHERE THEY ARE GOING QUICKER AND EASIER, BECAUSE THEY ARE TRAVELING ON THE TRUST OF ONE ANOTHER.

Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go through it alone and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the power of the flock.

IF WE HAVE AS MUCH SENSE AS A GOOSE, WE WILL SHARE INFORMATION WITH THOSE WHO ARE HEADED THE SAME WAY WE ARE GOING.

When the lead goose gets tired, he rotates back in the wing and another goose takes over.

IT PAYS TO SHARE LEADERSHIP AND TAKE TURNS DOING HARD JOBS.

The geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep their speed.

WORDS OF SUPPORT AND INSPIRATION HELP ENERGIZE THOSE ON THE FRONTLINE, HELPING THEM TO KEEP PACE IN SPITE OF THE DAY-TO-DAY PRESSURES AND FATIGUE.

Finally, when a goose gets sick or is wounded by a gunshot and falls out, two geese fall out of the formation and follow the injured one down to help and protect him. They stay with him until he is either able to fly or until he is dead, and then they launch out with another formation to catch up with their group.

IF WE HAVE THE SENSE OF A GOOSE, WE WILL STAND BY EACH OTHER WHEN THINGS GET ROUGH.

The next time you see a formation of geese, remember...

IT IS A REWARD, A CHALLENGE AND A PRIVILEGE to be a contributing member of a TEAM.

SERIOUS FOR A CHANGE

Around the corner I have a friend In this great city that has no end, Yet the days go by and weeks rush on, And before I know it, a year is gone And I never see my old friend's face, For life is a swift and terrible race, He knows I like him just as well, As in the days when I rang his bell, And he rang mine.

If, we were younger then, And now we are busy, tired men. Tired of playing a foolish game, Tired of trying to make a name. "Tomorrow" I say, "I will call on Jim" "Just to show that I'm thinking of him." But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes, And distance between us grows and grows. Around the corner!- yet miles away, "Here's a telegram sir-" "Jim died today." And that's what we get and deserve in the end. Around the corner, a vanished friend.

If you love someone, tell them. Remember always to say what you mean. Never be afraid to express yourself. Take this opportunity to tell someone What they mean to you. Seize the day and have no regrets. Most importantly, stay close to your Friends and family, for they have helped Make you the person that you are today And are what it's all about anyway.

Pass this along to your friends. Let it make a difference in your day and theirs. The difference between expressing Love and having regrets Is that the regrets may stay around forever.

PERSEVERE

The greatest accomplishments happen when you get just a little way beyond the point where others would have quit. The difference between someone who enjoys magnificent success, and someone who just managed to get by, is the willingness to do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes, to reach the goal.

How far away are you, from reaching your destination? If you quit before you get there you are infinitely far away. Make the commitment to keep going, and suddenly you are almost there.

Go beyond where others are willing to go. Put in the extra effort. The time will pass anyway, whether you use it or now. It just makes sense to make the most out of every moment. Give a little more than others are willing to give, be a little more patient, have a little more curiosity, take a little more responsibility, learn a few more things, and it will make all the difference in the world.

ENJOY THE JOURNEY

The best players enjoy the game. The best musicians have a love for music. The highest achievers enjoy the achievement. Do you detect a pattern here?

Whatever you must do to achieve success, find a way to enjoy it.

You can either do what you love, or love what you do. It doesn't matter which. What matters is the "do" part. Taking the action is what brings success. Yes, you can struggle against your own desires, be miserable, and eventually accomplish your goal. But why? You'll be far more effective and consistently successful when you enjoy doing the things that bring you success.

Healthy, physically fit people enjoy fruits, vegetables, and regular exercise just as much as overweight, out of shape people enjoy eating pizza in front of the TV. The difference is not in the food or the activity -- the difference is attitude.

You're in complete control of what you enjoy, and what you dislike. The things you like, are the things you've conditioned yourself to like. And you have the power to change them.

THE MOST CARING CHILD

Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.

When his mother asked him what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry."

ROLES AND HOW WE PLAY THEM

Whenever I'm disappointed with my spot in my life, I stop and think about little Jamie Scott. Jamie was trying out for a part in a school play. His mother told me that he'd set his heart on being in it, though she feared he would not be chosen. On the day the parts were awarded, I went with her to collect him after school. Jamie rushed up to her, eyes shining with pride and excitement. "Guess what Mum," he shouted, and then said those words that will remain a lesson to me: "I've been chosen to clap and cheer."

RISK

Qn : There are 3 frogs on a leaf. If one of them decided to jump off the leaf into the water, how many frogs are there left on the leaf?

An : Three. Because the frog only DECIDED to jump! It didn't!

Ponder over this, my friends. Are you not unlike the frog; who decides to do this, decides to do that, but ended up not doing any?

In life, we have to make many decisions. Some easy; some hard. Most mistakes are not made by wrong decisions. Most mistakes ARE made due to indecisions. We have to live with the consequences of our decisions. And that is RISK.

To laugh is to risk appearing a fool, To weep is to risk appearing sentimental. To reach out to another is to risk involvement, To expose feelings is to risk exposing your true self. To place your ideas and dreams before a crowd is to risk their loss. To love is to risk not being loved in return, To live is to risk dying, To hope is to risk despair, To try is to risk failure. But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.

The person who risks nothing, does nothing, has nothing, is nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he cannot learn, feel, change, grow or live. Chained by his servitude he is a slave who has forfeited all freedom. Only a person who risks is free.

The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; and the realist adjusts the sails.

EVERY TWIST AND TURN

There is potential for joy in every moment, whatever the situation. The only reason your job is boring, is because you choose to see it as such. The only reason your neighbor is unpleasant, is because you think of him as such.

Accept what is. Find the good in everything that surrounds you. Nothing will ever make you happy, until you decide to be happy. Accept what is, and you have the ability to make it whatever you want. Nothing can make you happy, and yet you can make happiness from anything.

Struggle and strife, laughter and fun, tears and smiles are all part of the same incredibly lavish symphony that is life. The richness of being alive is never conditional. It won't all be fun, but would you really want it to be? Rejoice in every twist and turn of the path, because that is where the living is.
