So, you're asking yourself what on earth is a splash screen? Splash screens are the background images you see when you turn on/off your computer. For example, with Windows 98, when you start your computer you see the Windows 98 logo, and when you turn it off, you see that same logo and it says "Windows is shutting down". Those are splash screens.
