SP316(cass,cd,Lp) LP2 is the second full length CD that Sunny Day Real Estate put out. Surrounded by controversy, this album is commonly thought to represent the band's breakup. Many of the songs on the album are never played at concerts, perhaps due to the conflicting feelings they conjure? A lot of fans, however, also claim that Lp2 is written with many of Jeremy Enigk's religious expressions in mind. Fans know Lp2 by its trademark pink cover and skimpy layout(for more info on the pink layout, seeLp2 era facts). The band left out lyrics, and other formatting options when creating Lp2, so many fans have taken figuring them out into their own hands. Since it was the last album before the band's breakup in 1995, fans had tons of time to listen to the album with headphones, and scribble down the words they heard.
Lp2 is similar to Diary in many ways, and, at the same time, on the other end of the spectrum. In Diary, Dan Hoerner was writing atleast fifty percent of the material that was done for the album. Although stressed after touring, Diary was written at a time when the band was working well together, and Dan and Jeremy wrote as more of a team. When Lp2 came along, the group had begun to argue more and Dan became less involved in the writing of lyrics. As a result, Jeremy's Christianity really took a strong presence in the songs. This is where the two albums vary. Not in quality, but largely in content. Instead of two men's emotions, it turned into mostly one mans...Jeremy's (note that some songs on Lp2 were written for past albums including Diary). This is also why Lp2 is so similar to Jeremy's solo music.
