Tommie Agee
Years with the Mets: 5, (1968-1972)
Tommie Agee was the 1969 Mets Opening Day hitter and by the end of the regular season he had hit 26 home runs and knocked in 76 New York Met runs. Agee also hit the longest home run in Shea Stadium history, all the way into the upper deck in leftfield.
Agee is more known among Mets fans for his defensive heroics in Game 3 of the 1969 World Series. In that game Agee made two catches that saved five runs and possibily the Championship too. Most people people don't even know that Agee homered that game as well. In 1970 Agee was finally honored for his flashy and solid defense when he received a Gold Glove award.
On January 22, 2001, Mets fans lost a true legend when Tommie Agee passed away at the age of 58.
