Glendon Rusch: (Added 3/18) The Blue Jays' assistant GM, Dave Stewart is apparently very interested in Glendon Rusch who he believes could be a 20 game winner. The Blue Jays are willing to give up Jose Cruz Jr. and some young pitching. The Mets may not be willing to part with their young gem unless they receive a number one or two pitcher in return which the Blue Jays do not have anymore. Gary Sheffield: (Updated 3/8) The Mets are offcially out of the Sheffield sweepstakes. Phillips made it official on Thursday. The big hold up was that the Fred Wilpon would not deal both Payton and Escobar and Malone and Phillips could not reach a deal without both centerfielders involved. Many people believe this is just a negotiating ploy by Phillips to get Malone to lower his asking price. ESPN.com says the Mets are out of it "for now", until the price lowers. Remember... this is the same GM that claimed the Mets were not involved in trade talks about Mike Piazza just days before the Mets got him. Daryl Hamilton: (Added 2/11) Rumor has it that the Mets have been shopping Daryl Hamilton and Hamilton is not unhappy to hear these rumors. Hamilton has never been very happy in New York but he was expected to compete for a starting spot in rightfield during Spring Training. Unless the Mets get another outfielder in return it is unlikely that they would deal Hamilton, who is in much better shape after just running a 4.7, 40 yard dash. Jamie Moyer: (Added 2/2) Since the Mets won't be able to deal for Matt Lawton without giving up Glendon Rusch the Mets are trying to strike a deal with the Mariners for 38 year old Jamie Moyer. The rumored deal is Robin Ventura for Jamie Moyer. This deal is very unrealistic since the Mets would be left with another hole at 3rd base. Roger Cedeno: (Added 1/14) Since no one is sure what Timo Perez will do in 2001 the Mets are looking trade for Roger Cedeno of the Detroit Tigers. It looks unlikely to happen since the Tigers just traded for Cedeno. Dennis Cook: (Added 1/11) With the the Mets acquiring lefthander reliver that Mets aging Dennis Cook expendable. The Mets have been trying to deal Cook since last season and now might be the time. Tim Salmon: (Added 1/7) Since the Mets have not been able to acquired Matt Lawton or Johnny Damon they are looking at Tim Salmon for an alternative lefty bat in the outfield. Troy O'Leary: (Updated 12/15)The Mets are interested in purchasing the contract of Troy O'Leary from the Red Sox, who are looking to dump salary after signing Ramirez. O'Leary would provide the Mets with that lefty bat they needed last season.
Dustin Hermanson: The Mets have always been on this young Montreal gun. Earlier this offseason the Mets turned down a trade that would send Jay Payton to the Expos for Hermanson. The Mets may also look to trade Alex Escobar to the Rockies for Pedro Astacio. Another possibility would be to trade for David Wells. The Blue Jays are rumored to be interested in Jay Payton and Rey Ordonez. |
