Keith Hernandez
Years with the Mets: 7, (1983-1989)
Keith Hernandez revolutionized the way first base was played. During his career with the Mets he mastered the 3-6-3 double play and he was such an aggressive fielder that he often fielded sacrificed bunts which were on the third base side of the infield. Mets fans got used to seeing Keith's defense win him six straight Gold Gloves as a Met.
Hernandez wasn't just all defense. He batted .300 for the third consecutive time in 1986. In Game 7 of the 1986 World Series, Hernandez had three RBIs and led the Mets to their second World Championship.
Along with Gary Carter, Keith Hernandez was the Mets unofficial team captain. He was constantly getting his teammates pumped up to get comebacks started and thats exactly what took place in the tenth inning of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.
