TOM SEAVER

Tom Seaver
Years with the Mets: 12, (1967-1977, 1983)

In 1967, at the age of 23, Tom Seaver made his Major League debut in a Mets uniform. By the end of that season, Seaver had posted a 2.76ERA and had won 16 games, which was good enough to earn himself the National League Rookie of the Year Award.
Things would only get better for Seaver in 1969 when he won 25 games and led the Mets to their first World Series Championship. Seaver was voted National League Cy Young and The Sporting News Pitcher of the Year. Behind Willie McCovey, he came in a close second in the National League Most Valueable Player voting.
During his memorable 1969 season, Seaver once took a perfect game into the ninth inning against the Cubs when Jimmy Qualls singled to center field. Later during the 1970 season, Seaver tied a Major League record, by striking out 19 San Diego Padres, including the last 10 batters he faced.
