Subj: [L5R-CCG] Gencon 2002 Invitees
The Horde has stormed pass the wall and with
surprisingly organized haste, assaults the capitol,
Oto-san-Uchi. However, the Horde have uncharacteristically, left
little destruction in its wake.
There is more to his attack than meets the eye and all shall
be revealed at "The Revelation of the
Darklord" at Gencon 2002.
Each Clan has sent representatives to harry the Shadowland demons
and to unravel the mystery
behind Lord Daigotsu's goal. They shall be automatically seeded
into our main Revelation of the
Dark Lord tournament and may participate in our Invitee only
tournaments.
Warlords are determined by having the top
points in their clan. Hatamotos are determined by
have the best finishes in their clan. Standard Bearers are determined
by play the most tournaments
in their clan.
Points were awarded through sanctioned tournaments
through performance and participation.
Points were accumulated from the period of Gencon 2001 through
May 2002.

Wizard of the Coast Removes L5R Content
Off It's Web Site
It was inevitable that Wizards would remove
the L5R card game from its servers after the license
returned to Alderac. For all the real and imagined faux pas that
were attributed to Wizards during
their stewardship of L5R, they did have a nice web site. It's
unfortunate that their work wasn't
archived for historical purposes.

An old L5R promotional picture has been found
which may show all the onisu of the clans. It was
briefly seen on Deathseeker but WotC/AEG asked that it be removed
because it pre-empted the
introduction of Gold edition. Now that the Gold edition storyline
is almost over there shouldn't be
any objections to it's release. The Dragon clan mailing list
had some interesting discussions on the
Dragon's onisu, thought to be called "Despair". They
think that it's one of the two unlabeled figures
on the lower right side of the picture.

Imperial Histories - Part II
is now available at Alderac. It covers Isawa Years 1130 to 1158.
With the passage of time and
heated passions, the events from the last generation of characters
can now be told. Those of you
who played the L5R card game over the last 2 years know how confusing
and contradictory the
"official" story of Rokugan was at that time. Even
though the events listed on Alderac's page do
not exactly match my recollection, it is close enough.
Besides, having it on Alderac's web site makes it the official
history and the last word.
Imperial Assembly Membership info can
be found at Organized
Play. Guess it takes a while
for re-subscriptions to be processed - my current renewal for
next year hasn't yet been entered
into the database.
More L5R players are needed at Jenkintown,
PA for casual play. Tuesday and Thursday
nights are generally when we get together with occasional tournaments
being held on the
weekends.
Isawa Darth (who usually posts on Deathseeker)
is trying to generate more interest in Legends
of the Five Rings and to win back those who have strayed to other
CCGs such as Lord of the
Rings and the new Star Wars CCG by Wizards of the Coast. Contact
Eric (store manager for
Brave
New Worlds) at 1-215-887-3335 for directions and to ask how
many L5R players are
present before you come.
Store amenities include gaming tables, refrigerated beverages,
parking in the back and multiple
fast food places that deliver.*
* disclaimer: no financial reimbursement
was received from Brave New Worlds nor am I a store employee
... yet (almost everyone works for George eventually.... :)
A new group of samurai whose mission is to
win without curruption. Hmm ... didn't the
(HDM) Honorable
Dragon Movement do the same thing 2 years ago? The Jade Hand has a
web presence that you can look at here.

Take Time Off to Celebrate the Dragon
Boat Festival
The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival celebrates
the failed rescue of Ch'u Yuan from the Mi-lo
River in Hunan Provence. Ch'u Yuan was an honest and wise former
minister who was
banished from the Imperial Court after slander discredited him.
As a means of preserving his honor, he clasped a large stone
and jumped into the Mi-lo River
to commit suicide. The villagers saw him in the water and tried
to rescue him by frantically
paddling boats out to reach him. Rice cakes were thrown into
the water as a distraction to
prevent the fish from eating him.
Although the rescue attempt was not successful, years of retelling
the story made it famous
enough to became The Dragon Boat Festival. The holiday is held
during the Fifth Day of the Fifth
month of the lunar calendar (Double Fifth). Each year, rice cakes
(both the sweet and the salty type)
are served and the rescue attempt is commemorated by a boat race.
The boats have detachable carvings of the
head and the tail of a dragon. These parts are kept on
the shore until the annual competition. Prior the to race, the
boats are brought to life by attaching
the head and tail pieces. A Taoist priest presides over the ceremony
ofbringing the boat to life.
Eyes are painted on the head of the dragon, firecrackers are
lit and paper money is place in the
dragon's mouth and in the water to dispel evil spirits.

though
even he was surprised when they appeared.
