Below you'll find a brief discription of each of my favorite organizations. Over the years I have volunteered my time to these organizations allowing me to gain valuable experience and the knowledge that I helped to make a difference in the lives of many people.




The American Diabetes Association is the nation's leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information and advocacy. Founded in 1940, it was reorganized in 1969 to increase its ability to serve the public. Today, offices in more than 800 communities conduct programs in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
The mission of the organization is to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. To fulfill this mission, the American Diabetes Association funds research, publishes scientific findings, and provides information and other services to people with diabetes, their families, health care professionals and the public.

We are the national corps of outstanding and diverse recent college graduates, of all academic majors, who commit two years to teach in under-resourced urban and rural public schools. Each year, over 1,000 corps members reach more than 100,000 students at thirteen locations across the country. Our alumni choose careers in many fields and continue as lifelong leaders in the pursuit of educational excellence for all children.

Rock the Vote is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to protecting freedom of speech, educating young people about the issues that affect us, and motivating young people to participate by registering, voting, and speaking out.

OUR MISSION IS TO ENSURE THAT NO MAN, WOMAN OR CHILD WITH AIDS WITHIN OUR REACH IS EVER FORCED TO GO HUNGRY. LIFEbeat is a not-for-profit AIDS resource and awareness organization. LIFEbeat is dedicated to mobilizing the talent of the music industry in order to: Provide grants to community-based service organizations Established innovative ways to disseminate information on HIV/AIDS and AIDS-related services Empower members of the music industry living with HIV/AIDS by offering access to information, services and financial assistance. LIFEbeat had its genesis in the basic belief that the AIDS crisis can end. Until that day, our mission is to help those who are fighting for their lives so that they will be here for the cure. Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC), founded by volunteers in 1981, is the oldest and largest not-for-profit AIDS organization in the United States. GMHC offers hands-on support services to more than 9,500 men, women and children with AIDS and their families in New York City annually, as well as education and advocacy for hundreds of thousands nationwide.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is the oldest, largest and most respected wish-granting organization in the world. It exists for one purpose: to fulfill the special wishes of children under the age of 18 who have life-threatening illnesses.
The foundation is a nonprofit, privately funded organization composed of more than 13,000 volunteers in 82 chapters in the United States and its territories.
In the year ended August 31, 1997, Make-A-Wish® volunteers in the United States granted 7,041 wishes. Since the foundation was created in 1980, more than 50,000 wishes have been granted throughout the United States.

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) is the nation's leading industry-based, not-for-profit AIDS fundraising and grant making organization. BC/EFA is the ongoing, committed response from the American Theatre community to an urgent worldwide health crisis. By drawing upon the talents, resources and generocity of this community, BC/EFA raises funds for AIDS-related causes across the United States. Since its founding in 1988, BD/EFA has raised millions of dollars for critically needed services for people with AIDS, HIV, or HIV-related illnesses.

The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., operates America's only national hotline for survivors of sexual assault. The hotline 1-800.656.HOPE offers free, confidential counseling and support 24 hours a day, from anywhere in the country.
In less than four years of operation, RAINN has already helped more than 200,000 victims of sexual assault. RAINN has also fulfilled more than 20,000 information requests from the media and the public.

Amnesty International on-line Amnesty International is a worldwide campaigning movement that works to promote all the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international standards. In particular, Amnesty International campaigns to free all prisoners of conscience; ensure fair and prompt trials for political prisoners; abolish the death penalty, torture and other cruel treatment of prisoners; end political killings and "disappearances"; and oppose human rights abuses by opposition groups.

Our mission is to eliminate deaths from breast cancer in our lifetime and make sure women living with breast cancer receive the best available care and support. We are working to find ways to reduce breast cancer--through earlier and better detection, more effective, less debilitating treatments, and prevention.

The American Heart Association is a not-for-profit, voluntary health organization funded by private contributions. Its mission is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke. These include heart attack, stroke (brain attack) and related disorders.
