part 11~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The whole evening was unbelievable. We danced and danced most of the night. A few girls came up and tried to get JC and Lance to dance with them, but the guys turned them down. I kept having images flash through my mind of Lance and the dreams I'd been having. Kate came to me at one point during the night and asked if I was feeling weird. I asked what she meant and she told me that she kept seeing flashes of JC in her head. I told her it was happening to me too but I didn't know what to make of it. The party lasted all night long and close to dawn, Kate came and told Lance and I that she couldn't find JC. We searched the whole room for him, but didn't find him anywhere. Then Lance told her to go look on the balcony. Kate looked at him strangely, but went out there. Sure enough, JC was sitting on the railing staring off at the horizon. The sky was just beginning to brighten with the first rays of the sun. Kate walked up behind him and put her hands on his shoulders.
JC jerked around, almost losing his balance. He was caught off guard and she noticed that there were tears glistening on his pale cheeks. He swiped them away with the back of his hand.
"I didn't mean to scare you." Kate told him.
"It's okay. I was just watching the first part of the sunrise." JC replied and looked into her eyes.
Kate thought that she saw a profound sadness there, but it quickly disappeared. She frowned, wondering what it was that he was hiding.
"Are you okay?" She asked him.
"I'm fine." He snapped and went back inside.
Kate stood there, taken aback by his harsh tone. She stepped closer to the edge, placing her hands on the railing.
"He gets like that sometimes. He doesn't really like for people to see his feelings." A voice said from behind her.
Kate turned around and saw Lance standing there. "Why won't he let anyone get close to him? What is he so afraid of?"
"He just always keeps everyone at a distance because he's afraid of getting hurt." Lance replied. "Now come on, let's go back in."
Kate shrugged and they went back to the party. I walked over to meet them. "Is everything alright?" I asked, looking back and forth between Kate and Lance.
"Just peachy." Kate said a little sarcastically.
"JC was a little rude to her that's all." Lance told me.
I put my arm around them both and we stood there like that until we saw JC walking across the floor towards us.
"I'm sorry I snapped at you." JC told Kate.
She looked at him angrily for a moment, then softened. "It's okay I guess. Just don't make a habit out of it." They went back out on the dance floor.
I looked at Lance and we did the same. The song that was playing was slow and romantic and we held each other tightly, relishing the feel of just being in each other's arms.
"I don't ever want this night to end." I told him a little shyly.
"Neither do I." He whispered in my ear.
After the last chords of the song died away, an announcement was made that the next song would be the last and the party would be over soon.
Lance and I held each other even more tightly. I looked up and saw Kate's head resting on JC's shoulder too and smiled to myself. When the song was over, we all left, wanting to try and beat most of the rush. We went back to the townhouse, where JC told us all goodbye and then left. Kate looked a little upset that he left so soon, but went on up to her room. Lance started to lay down on the couch, but I stopped him.
"Come up here with me." I said and held out my hand.
He took it and we walked up to my room together.

part 12~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I made him wait in the bedroom while I went into the bathroom and changed clothes. I took off the dress and the wig and washed the make-up off my face. Then I put on my usual, boxers and a t-shirt, to sleep in. When I came back out, I saw that Lance had changed out of his costume as well. He was sitting on the edge of the bed looking nervous and I smiled.
"I'm not gonna bite you." I told him and laughed at the horrified look on his face. Then I realized that he didn't know that I was joking. "I was kidding Lance. Relax."
He gave me a little half smile and seemed to loosen up a bit. I climbed over him into the bed and got under the covers. Then I found myself staring at his back. 'God, is this boy a virgin or something?' I asked myself. I tugged on his arm a little, encouraging him to lay down beside me. When he laid back, he was stiff and unyielding. He had his arms crossed on his chest and was staring up at the ceiling instead of looking at me.
"Lance, what's wrong?" I asked.
"Nothing." He replied, his voice barely over a whisper.
"Don't give me that. I can tell. What is it? Is it me?" I was beginning to get a little upset.
He turned then to look at me and took my face in his hands. "No. It's not you." His voice was a little stronger this time. "Don't ever think that it's you. It's me. I can't give you what you want." His voice was tinged with remourse and there was sadness in his eyes.
Somehow, I knew then that there was something important about him that I didn't know, and that he wasn't going to tell me.
"It's okay. Really. Will you just hold me?" I said, bringing my hands up to touch his cheeks. I made the mistake of looking into his eyes and felt myself being carried away. For a moment, I thought I saw his eyes moisten with tears, then he tore his gaze away. He drew me close to him and I could feel the coldness of his skin through his clothes and mine. I pressed my body to his, hoping to give him some warmth, and felt him suck his breath in sharply. He buried his face in my hair and held to me tightly. I must have drifted off to sleep, because I felt myself jerking awake. I noticed that Lance had gotten up at some point and I went to go look for him. I found him sitting on the couch downstairs, his face in his hands, his body shaking uncontrollably. I went to him then and a knelt before him. He looked at me, and I saw that his face was streaked with tears. I took him into my arms and held him tightly against me, wanting to absorb the pain he was feeling and make it go away. His face was buried in my neck and I could feel his breath caressing my skin. It got closer and closer, then his lips were touching me, bringing exquisite sensations to my body. I arched my neck to allow him easier access. He continued then pulled away.
"You cannot want this." He whispered into my ear. Somehow I knew that he wasn't talking about sex. It was something else. But at that moment I didn't care what it was as long as this wonderful feeling didn't go away.
"Yes. I do." I told him. He got up then and took my hand, leading me back up the stairs to my room. He shut and locked the door behind us. Our gazes locked and I backed towards the bed. He followed me step for step, then we sank down in the softness of the mattress. He found where he'd left off on my neck, and I gave myself over to intense desire. Without removing his mouth from my neck, he brought his hands into play, caressing every inch of my body. He moved them over my arms, then my breasts. He placed kisses up the side of my face and brought his lips to mine. We removed our clothes and let our tongues explore each other's mouths. Then he moved back to my neck, as if he was drawn there. Vaguely, I felt his teeth on my skin, he was nibbling at my neck. It seemed that he bit down, then I lost all sense of reality. I felt such warmth and excruciating pleasure. His skin grew heated against my own. Then he pulled away and it was over as quickly as it had began. He looked at me and his green eyes sparkled in the darkness. Not wanting to face what I was feeling and wondering yet, I laid my head on his chest and fell asleep.

part 13~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke up as the first rays of the sun were starting to peek through the window. Remembering what Lance had said about not liking the sun, I got up and put a blanket over the curtains. Satisfied with the effect, I laid back down. The next time I woke up, it was late afternoon. I noticed that Lance had gotten up at some point and went to go look for him. I went downstairs and he wasn't in the living room. Finally, I found a note taped to the inside of the front door. It said that he'd gone to find JC and would be back soon.
Kate came downstairs while I was still standing by the front door. "Well, hello sleepyhead. How you two sleep last night?" She had a sly grin on her face and emphasized the word 'two'.
I blushed a little at the fact that she knew Lance had stayed in my room. "Just fine, thank you."
She gave me a look that said she didn't believe me, then went into the kitchen.
"Hey, how'd you get out of work today?" I asked.
Kate stuck her head around the refrigerator. "It's Saturday, you goof."
"Oh, I forgot" I frowned to myself and sat down on the couch and started flipping through the TV channels.

**Jc and Lance**
"I can't believe you did it again!" JC shouted at Lance.
They were in a ratty motel room, where JC had been staying.
"I couldn't help it. Besides, she said she wanted to." Lance told him.
"She knows?"
"Well, no. Not really." Lance said.
"What do you mean, not really? Either she knows or she doesn't." JC had lowered his voice a little.
"Well she knows that something is different, but she doesn't know what it is."
"Dammit Lance. You know this can't happen. You can't be with her man. It's not going to happen. If she really knew what you were, she'd never want to see you again."
"Don't you think I know that?" Lance replied sadly.
JC suddenly saw a way to put an end to the whole thing. But he told Lance, "Stay right here, I've got to go get something." He walked out the door, leaving Lance sitting there with no choice but to wait for him.
JC walked a ways, then turned around to make sure Lance wasn't following him. When he wasn't being followed, he hurried on to Kate and Dian's townhouse.
He knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer.
**
"I'll get it!" I shouted to Kate and ran down the stairs, thinking it was Lance. When I opened the door, I saw JC standing there.
"Where's Lance?" I asked as he walked into the living room.
"He's back at my place and he doesn't know that I'm here." JC told me and sat down on the couch.
"Oh. Well, I'll get Kate for you." I started to go back upstairs, but he stopped me.
"I'm not here to see her. I'm here to talk to you. Do you want to know the truth about Lance?" JC sat there looking at me.
"What do you mean, the truth? The truth about what?"
"Don't tell me you haven't noticed that he seems a little....different." JC said.
"Well yah. But he told me he didn't remember anything." I replied.
"Of course he doesn't. Neither do I. That happens during the change sometimes."
"The change? What the hell are you talking about?" I asked. I was getting a little worried at the tone of his voice and the look in his eyes.
"Lance....and I, we're...vampires." JC said, looking straight into my eyes.

part 14~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I started laughing then. "Oh, that's a good one JC!" I was holding my sides.
Then JC jumped up off the couch too fast for me to even realize what was happening until he was standing right in front of me. He grabbed ahold of my shirt. "So you don't believe me huh?" He snarled. "Do you believe this then?"
He bared his teeth at me. I stopped laughing and stared at his mouth. His canines were long and pointed. They looked really sharp.
"Get out. Right now. And don't come back. Tell Lance not to come back either." I said quietly.
JC let go of my shirt and walked out the door without even looking back. When he closed the door behind him, I collasped on the floor, trying to catch my breath. Kate came running down the stairs then and gasped when she saw me crumpled on the floor.
"My god! What happened, Dian?" She asked me and kneeled beside me on the floor.
I couldn't tell her. I could barely believe it myself. "Nothing really. JC and I were having an argument."
"JC was here? Why didn't you holler at me?" She asked.
"Because he told me not to." I said and flinched at the hurt look in her eyes. "I'm going to go lay back down." I got up off the floor and walked up the stairs to my room.

**JC and Lance**
JC walked back in the door of the motel room. He was a litte surprised to see that Lance was still sitting on the bed. He felt regret for a moment because he knew that Lance was going to be devasted when he found out. But then he convinced himself that it was the best thing to do, for all of them. If things had been allowed to continue the way they were going, his and Lance's safety, and Kate and Dian's lives would be in danger. He didn't want to let that happen. Plus he'd started to have feelings for Kate, and it was better to end it now, before everyone involved got hurt worse.
Lance looked up and saw JC standing by the door. "You were gone for quite a while. Where did you go?" There was suspicion in his voice.
JC looked at the floor. "I went to Dian and Kate's house. I told Dian the truth Lance."
"WHY?" Lance shouted at him.
"Because. She was going to find out sooner or later. I just saved you the trouble, and the pain."
"NOOOOOO!" Lance wailed and sank to the floor. He stayed like that for a few minutes. Then he looked up at JC, his face distorted with pain. "What did she say?"
"She told me to get out and to tell you that she never wanted to see you again either?" JC said quietly.
Lance broke into quiet sobs from his place on the floor.

part 15~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Lance. Get a hold of yourself." JC said roughly.
Lance slowly got up from the floor and swiped at his eyes with the back of his hand. "I hope you're happy with yourself." He had his back turned to JC to hide the pain he was sure that was clearly written on his face.
"No. Not really. But it had to be done. Now I think we should leave here as soon as possible."
"Whatever." Lance laid down on one of the beds and tried to go to sleep.

**back at the townhouse**
I laid in my bed and stared at the ceiling for hours. Kate came in to check on me a few times and I had pretended to be asleep. I didn't feel like to talking to anyone, not even her. I thought about what had happened and what JC told me. If what he said was true, and it certainly seemed that way, what was going to happen to me? Would I go back to normal or eventually become like they were? All these thoughts and more were racing through my mind. And then there was that intense pain I had felt earlier. It was like someone were wrenching my heart from my chest. Now I had a sense of separation, but I didn't know from what. I was so confused, I could barely think. Finally, mercifully, I drifted off to sleep.

**JC and Lance**
They had gathered what little stuff they had and set out into the night. Neither one knew where they were going, but JC wanted to get as far away from there as possible. He didn't want to give Dian time to change her mind about Lance. And he didn't want to face his own feelings for Kate. It was too dangerous for both of them. He wasn't sure what was going to happen to Dian. He didn't know if she could go back to normal, or if she would eventually turn into what they were. He knew Lance was probably beating himself up over that very thing. He turned to look at Lance and saw that he was walking with his head down, barely paying attention to where he was going.
"Lance. Snap out of it man."
"Just leave me alone JC. You ruined my life and I don't want to talk to you."
"Newsflash buddy. I didn't ruin your life. That happened back in Scotland. I kept you from ruining someone else's life." JC told him.
Lance didn't answer, he just kept walking.

**2 days later**
Between walking and hitchhiking, Lance and JC had managed to put alot of miles between them and the girls. JC tried to make the best of things, but Lance was still acting the same way, moping around and barely speaking. He only fed when JC forced him to. It was like he wanted to vanish off the face of the earth.

**Dian and Kate**
Kate had stopped asking about what happened between me and JC, and I never offered to talk about it. I went on with my life as well as I could and tried to forget about Lance. But everywhere I looked, I saw his face. I dreamed about him at night and thought about him all day. Sometimes when I closed my eyes, it was almost like I was with him. Kate went back to work this morning. After she left, I got up and decided to go to the library and do some research to try and ease my mind about what had happened. Once I got there, I found an open computer and started looking up anything I could find on vampirism, searching and cross-referencing until I had a sizeable list to work with. I went through the rows of bookshelves, collecting the titles on the list and then sat down at a table and started reading.
