Disability Equality Training

DET aims is to breakdown misconceptions that society has about disabled people, and raise awareness of disability issues. DET consists of a team of disabled and non-disabled trainers that give a presentation to people of all ages. They talk about their own experiances of life as disabled people, discuss the social and medical models of disability and debate assumptions and attitudes within an informal environment.
The training aims to help people understand disability issues though open and interactive debate. The session gives people the opportunity to ask questions that they may not usually feel comfortable asking. The focus is changing the attitudes of the community by acceptance and familiarity with disability issues, rather than lecturing on the right way to think.

The team visits any groups and organisations whose members are over the age of 11 which have venues that are accessable to the DET team members. The format is very flexible and can be customised to cover a variety of issues according to the needs of the group.

If you would like to book a training session for your group or organisation, phone Kent Phab on (01622) 663040 or fax us on (01622) 692640 or see the contacts page.
