Togle - Together in Leisure

At Togle we believe young disabled people have equal rights to be involved in everyday leisure activities. Many of our members do not have the opportunity to make friends locally or access local activities. Togle encourages young people to do so through friendship and fun.
Urgently needed volunteers in Tonbridge, Medway, Dartford and Gravesham!
To enable this to happen the Togle member chooses a club that they wish to attend. This can be anything from play groups to cubs to Duke of Edinburgh Awards to climbing. They are then introduced to a volunteer who will attend the club with them helping them to settle in and make new friends.
The volunteer will give as much or as little support as is necessary to help the young person to be fully included. Their role is to encourage other members of the club to include the Togle member. When everybody feels comfortable, the Togle volunteer will gradually withdraw to aid full inclusion.
Togle aims to:
  • help young people with physical and sensory disabilities to gain self-confidence and independence as they are welcomed into mainstream leisure activities
  • raise awareness of disability issues
  • enable young disabled people to take part in an activity of their choice, giving them the opportunity to make new friends
  • provide support to clubs who may otherwise be nervous of including disabled people
  • give disabled people confidence to eventually attend clubs by themselves
