Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated was founded January 13, 1913 at Howard University by 22 illustrious women. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. was founded on two major principles: public service and sisterhood. Delta's foundation lies in the Five Point Thrust program, the vehicle through which the sorority's public service is based. Some national projects include Habitat for Humanity and the Delta Academy for teenage girls.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated has inducted over 200,000 women and is the largest African-American women's organization in the world. Delta has over 900 chapters throughout the United States, Africa, Europe, and the Bahamas. Members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated strive for high scholastic achievement while dedicating themselves to the betterment of their communities through public service. Since its founding, its members have passed the torch from generation to generation, dedicating themselves to public service and sisterhood in Delta's name.
