Twin to Nathan. Charles went to Indiana as a youth, then to Ohio. He was a farmer, logger, and loved big horses. He had a pronounced German accent. He never taught his children German, so he and his wife could talk without children understanding. He insisted last name be pronounced "Stirewald", and became quite upset when pronounced sounding the "g". In 1934, Muskingum Watershed (Charles Mill Dam) took over the farm. "Steigerwalt Bridge" remains with no road to or from. It was a popular fishing area at one time. Farm near Paradise Hill was made into a golf course. He was a member of Mifflin UB Church, Mifflin, Oh. While visiting his son, he died of arteria-sclerosis heart disease. Change of spelling from Steigerwald to Steigerwalt occurred with Charles' children. Charles objected to the change.

[The will is handwritten on paper with printed heading "answers to examination questions International Correspondence Schools, Scranton, PA". Mary Louise Kleckner recalls that son Milton, then 24, studied law through a correspondence school. The signature is in a different, more shaky hand]. TRUST: Despite the fact that this is Emma's youngest daughter Emma Ruth was over 21 (she was 27) when mother Emma died, a trust was established which was not liquidated until Oct 12, 1976, having lasted 43 years. Its only asset was the premises at 821 Ritter Street, Reading. In it lived her daughters Stella and Eva, who were 35 and 31 respectively when the will was written, and 49 and 45 when their mother died. Eva died in 1949 at the age of 60. The house was sold in 1976, perhaps when Stella, then age 91, moved to the rest home in Topton where she died in 1981 at the age of 97. The house was sold for $11,000, which was distributed equally to Emma's six children then living but also including deceased son Russell, whose five daughters each received $272.24, a fifth of his one-seventh.
