21:20 Off to Moulin Rouge with Miriam!
6-29
Last day of camp, picked Timothy up at the airport, went to Cub and Video Update and took a nap. Mom and Dad's anniversary (22nd). Mom was out with a friend from Texas, so dad ordered in pizza. I had a dream in which I recall actually thinking, "I've already had this dream. It was either last night or when I had my nap today. I have to wake up." That's the first time I've ever felt déja vu in a dream before.
6-28
All the girls stayed overnight at camp. Fit 13 people into a car designed for 5. Was fun. Rest of the day was just tiring, though.
6-27
Woke up to "It's a New Day" from the Sailor Moon CD what Jenny gave me cause she didn't want it and I like Sailor Moon (Yay Sailor Moon!!!) so I was all really happy because it's always a great way to start my day. Then I got dressed, packed my swimsuit and towel into my backpack, and drove over to a park in Wisconsin where camp was going to be held that day. We went swimming twice and even though I was still wearing my shorts and only standing thigh-deep in the water, several of the girls still insisted on splashing me or clinging to my legs. Then we did some crafts, blew bubbles and had lunch. After lunch we went swimming again, by which I mean the girls went swimming and I went wading because I had to be in the water with the girls. Then we did more crafts and cleaned up our two picnic tables. Or rather, I tried to get them to clean up but ended up doing most of the work myelf. If I had a dime for every time I picked up Emily's water bottle and told her to put it in her backpack, well... I'd have a lot of dimes, put it that way.
Once all the girls were put on the busses and sent home, the caddies all went swimming for a good hour, which was mostly fun, especially as we could swim out past the bouys. Though we mostly just tread water and talked. At least we were in the water (and not getting sunburned!) Then the three people with cars (me and two others) drove all the caddies back to camp, with one of the cars making a detour to the waterfall. Then I went home, because we were having someone over for dinner that night.
The person in question was Fernando, a Brazilian exchange student who had stayed with my family for a month in August, when I was in Germany. I had met him for the first time on Sunday. We had him over because he was going back to Brazil next Friday and my dad wanted to see him one last time and he wanted to go waterskiing on our lake.
6-26
Got up at 7 or 7:30 and had breakfast with the others, which was a really cool fun sugar-filled breakfast of Frosted Flakes and a nectarine and something else. And a small slice of coffee cake that didn't taste too good. I saw the Burke twins again while I was eating breakfast- one of them had been my co-caddie (caddies always come in twos) the very first year we were caddies, and I hadn't seen them for three years. So that was fun. Then we went outside and sang songs and did camp stuff like more arts and crafts (again, getting less done than I had expected) and making a fire in 90-degree weather so we could brown the hamburger for lunch which half the girls didn't eat anyway, and then I went home with my aunt and cousins and chilled at their house till my mom got of work and came to pick me up. Then I went home and vegged till dinner, after which I took a three-hour nap till midnight, tried calling Kaarina (no go) and then did nonproductive, relaxing things until 2 am, when I went to bed.
6-25
00:41 Nasty day. Got awoken super early (we're talking 10:30 here) and started cleaning. Tried calling Kaarina around 11 becuase I had said I would, but her number was busy when I called. Bummer, huh? Then I cleaned and cut up fruits and veggies and all sorts of fun stuff like that until 2, when my grad party officially started. Of course, we weren't really expecting anyone until 3 or so, but of course the LOLs (Little Old Ladies) from church were there at about ten minutes past. So I said hi and chatted just a bit, then ran off at the first possible excuse and took a quick shower, brushed my hair and changed shirts. When I came back up, more people had arrived and I was pretty much greeting people or saying goodbye until 5. I think it was around then that I got a chance to go out on the boat with some friends, which was nice because I got to relax and get away for a bit. Then it was back to chatting for 5 minutes, answering mundane questions (Vicki was right; I should have just had cue cards with the answers to some questions written on them (Where are you going next year? Where is that? What do you plan to study?)) and making sure everyone was all happy. The last guests left at 8 (immediate family, we didn't mind that they had stayed so long) and just as they were leaving Sam pulled up, having gotten back from his weekend away/avoiding my party in Moorhead. So he and his friends ate most of the leftovers, after which dad put most of them away while I opened cards and Martha wrote down what came from whom. Total amount made: enough to keep me comfortable this summer without me needing to get a job. Woohoo! And some nifty/useful presents, which were nice. Then Dad and I went to our ex-exchange student's grad party in St. Paul/Falcon Heights and I finally got to meet him (nice kid) and we took photos and stuff. Soon I shall have to go and pack for two days at camp and vainly search for my medical form which shall not be fun but oh well. They'll have extras and I can sign for myself now. So no update tomorrow as I will be off at Girl Scout camp bullying small children (most likely including one or two of my cousins). We shall see what it's like.
Camp Update!!!
Woke up really really super early (like, 7:30) and got dropped off at my aunt's house so she could drive me (and her kids) to Girl Scout camp. I was a full-fledged councellor this year. It's not as much fun as being a caddie (junior councellor). Espcially as my two caddies were not real big on the singing and the games playing, which is like 80% of what a caddie does, so I got to do that AND the councelling stuff. Gosh, I had forgotten how tiresome being the councellor for 1st and 2nd graders is. Next time I'm asking for 4, 5 or 6th graders. I also didn't recall how little gets accomplished. But it wasn't too bad. And after all the girls left I stayed with the caddies (hey, I'm only a few months older than some of 'em) and watched movies and made cool nametags and a bead fishy which is going to Jenny. Took a midnight shower and finally went to bed around 1. Half the other caddies were still up. It was lots of fun.

0:17 Added some lovely comments to my travel page. Then I made the mistake of trying to edit my map of Austria (a .jpg file) with Paint, and that worked fine. Then I saved and tried uploading and that didn't work too well at all. It destroyed both maps. I wasn't pleased, but I could always get another map, especially as I had saved-NOOOO!! (I just realized something. The web adress of where I had gotten the maps was on the travel page, which- well, read on.) So anyway, I was upset but not overly so, because I could just get a new map. Anyway, I edited my travel page, saved it and viewed it to make sure the new link worked, and saw... nothing. ALL my hard work had vanished. I was soooo upset!!! So I wrote a quick mock-up, which is what you see if you go there now, and decided to wait on the rest. And I made a second copy of the page, just in case.
6-23
23:30 Worked a whole lot for my grad party and helped dad take the homemade scaffolding down (that was REAL fun.) Also went to two grad parties, neither all that fun. Didn't know almost anyone there. Talked for a while with Miriam while working on stuff for the party. Did no work on the page as I had almost no time, sad to say.
Decided I should put up a couple pages in German, but I need to get around to it first.
6-22
14:06 We realize now why Jenny's journal has the oldest page at he bottom and the newest stuff on top, instead of going top to bottom in chronological order reading down the page like the western mind wants. It's not just for people who regularly read it and this way don't have to scroll down for the newest stuff. It's because she doesn't have to scroll down to the bottom of the page and FIND the end of her last entry in order to put something new in. Unless she's making more than one entry per day, in which case she's screwed. But it's not that bad. I have decided to adopt the same practice, as I only have 6 entries so far and already dislike scrolling ALL THE WAY DOWN 6 whole inches or whatever to make a new entry.
On a more fun note, I've been cleaning the house since I woke up in preparation for my grad party. Pretty soon I get to go outside and mow the lawn. But for now I'm off to clean the porch and sweep the sawdust out and suchlike. Oh, what fun!
19:16 I think it's really sad when my brother, sister and I all send IMs to each other and we're all sitting within 5 feet of each other. Although it's mostly my sister who does the IMing. But it's still sad, especially considering we could probably TALK to each other with less effort. That's technology for you.
6-21
19:06 You should read Soul Music by Terry Pratchett only if you've seen the movie The Blues Brothers, starring Dan Akroyd and John Belushi.
6-20
23:13 I was looking around Lawrence's webpage, looking at all sorts of fun information and came across their page on study abroad programs. They have one to Japan, yay skippy hurray! But they don't offer Japanese as a language, only Eastern Studies and Chinese. WSS. And I was also looking at the Econ and Classics requirements, and the Eastern Studies one to see if they had anything about Japanese, and there was a link on one of them to the International Relations page. Now, part of the reason I want to learn Japanese is because I have this big idea of me going to Japan as an English/Japanese speaker and being able to do pretty much whatever I want in some high-up business, for which I would need the Japanese language classes and the econ major. But if I do the International Relations program, I can combine that with econ classes, do this year abroad in Japan to learn the Japanese, and then I'll be all set. Sounds like a plan, now the only thing to do is to implement it. If that's still what I want to do next month when I register for classes.Jenny's in Chicago, I hope she and her friends are having fun.
Oh, and Stefan taught me how to do tables today.
6-19
12:39 Was awoken at 9 am this morning by the dog, wanting to go out. The problem with my room is that it's right by the basement door, so I'm the one that gets bugged if she needs to go out. Lucky me. Then I went back to bed until the ungodly early hour of 11 by my dad, insisting that I come upstairs and have pancakes for breakfast, along with my siblings. I don't even like his pancakes too much. They're good (or at least okay) pancakes, but they're too big/dense/thick, so I can never manage more than two of them, and that takes effort. But we ate our two pancakes and then went upstairs to try to work on this.
The first thing I did was convert Angelfire's ready-made main page to html text, then scrap everything I had (which wasn't much). I started from scratch (frequently checking Angelfire's html help page), and finally managed to get a pretty decent layout done. Then I saw that Jenny the Wonderful was on AIM, so I asked her for a little help, seeing as she knows way more than me about all this (me just having started yesterday, recall). I managed (with much Jenny intervention) to put up no less than TWO backgrounds and even uploaded some jpg's, aren't I special. And look what I can do! Italics and boldface!!! I can make things green or blue or red or anything! This is so much fun! Tee hee.
14:13 Just finished helping dad pack stuff up to take to the Goodwill... Lost of it. The sad thing is, there's still WAAY too much stuff in our house. Especially my room, as it was used as storage space, especially for books. I need to get a lot of books out so that I can replace them with mine. That should do a lot to reduce the clutter. And I need to rearrange the furniture so that I can either fit another bookshelf in (what got stolen by a sibling when I left) or put the futon against the wall in such a way that it's not blocking my dresser or bookshelf. We shall see. And then I still need to unpack my other suitcase.... Time to put more internal links up!
0:30 Finally found a page that didn't require me to register for their maps or credit them in my page or ask for authorization or pay them or anything! I was so happy. So I added a bunch of maps to the links page. Now I just need to finish writing the descriptions of everything, which may take longer. But the links to maps are up, and that's good becaues I like maps. If you ever want to get me a present and aren't sure what to get, get me a map. Especially those nice National Geographic political ones.
Oh, another thing. AT&T and the computer guy and dad finally got everything right and the stars were properly aligned and all that, so the thrid computer is now working. And we now have a DSL hookup, which should be nice. The only problem is, 3 computers is still somehow too few for 5 computer users (mom doesn't count). Meh. We shall manage it all somehow.
6-18
Started my (technically) very first website today. I said I was doing it to learn html, but ended up using Angelfire's pre-formatted, fill-in-the-blank pages instead. Shame on me. Then, once I had the thing, I didn't know what to do with it. Put up a links page, since I had some ideas for that, but nothing else. We shall see what tomorrow brings.
