Humans
Character Specifications
Abilities:
The abilities of human beings vary from individual to individual, just as they
do today. The human race has witnessed new races spring forth from their own
kind, leaving them in the proverbial dust. This has had many effects on the race
as a whole, and many of them have chosen a sort of path in dealing with magic.
Humans do not have natural magical ability. This does not go to say that magic
has flipped them the bird. On the contrary, there are certain magicks that can
be learned by the magically inept. The learning of a craft, however, is not done
overnight. It is extraordinarily time consuming, and takes much of a person's
free time. Those who choose to learn its ways must make a very conscious, full
on effort to do so. Those who learn under the tutelage of another magic user are
likely to learn more quickly, and gain more control.
Some humans, as before, are still able to manifest psychic, empathic,
telepathic, telekinetic, and pyrokinetic abilities with lightning accuracy. They
have generally carried on in the same way as before, seeing as the matter is
generally taboo.
Weaknesses:
Humans are only as good healers as their bodies will allow. They are subject to
illness, although with magic actively affecting the world, the average lifespan
of a human being has grown from 75-85, to 110-120. Yet, mortal they remain, and
fragile indeed.
Some Origins:
The history of the human race is as found in history books today. Alas, the rich
and the survivors are the ones who got to write it. The origins of the human
race are as much a mystery as it is now. It all depends on one’s perspective and
belief system.
The Rebirth of Magic:
Humans are notoriously proud and with that comes consequences. Some have become
jealous of the new races, some are deathly afraid of them. They do not feel like
they should accept the fact that they have dropped a notch on the food chain.
Others, of more religious descent, seem to believe that this is surely a sign of
the end of the world. And a few of them, namely the AoD, believe that magic is
purely evil and Satan is manifesting himself all over the globe. They have
chosen, in their fear, to band together and fight back to protect themselves
from what may or may not be a threat. There are always people on both sides of
the spectrum. There are fanatics, but there also are pacifists. There is good,
there is evil. There is neutral. It is just the way the world works, and will
always continue to be.
Humans in Society:
Humans, like any other race, have interests in preserving self. They are still
primary figures in governments and have generally maintained "in control"
status. They do work together with members of other races to achieve a similar
goal, such as passing laws on magic as a deadly weapon and other restrictions on
behavior. Humans are especially unsettled by the unseemly creatures of the night
and the underworld, and who can blame them. No one wants to be a steady food
source and so many are willing to comply and donate blood to local blood banks
that vampires may feed there, rather than in their living rooms and on their
children. Others feel that they should do nothing of the sort to assist these
creatures. And still, others don't really care either way.
How Other Races View Humans:
Elves: "We really are like sister races, and
most of them are still our families. Everyone is related to at least a handful.
And just like family, we would both die protecting the other."
Dwarves: "Damn fine workers, creative too. Can be annoying, but they are
awful good drinking partners. They would all look better with beards. S'all I'm
saying…"
Drow: "I like to rather think of the human race as an antique toy chest.
They aren't making them anymore, but its still fun to pop inside for an amusing
look around."
Orcs: "Give it up for the humans. Whether or not we think they are amazingly
bad drivers, they still shaped the world, and they continue to do so. Besides.
Someone has to be the middle man between our race and the elves. Nancies."
Fae: "But I really like the looks on their faces when we tie their
shoelaces together and they fall down…"
Sidhe: "'Terrorizing the human race since before there was hair'…heh...plus
they think our kids are ugly. I wonder if they even own mirrors. "
Vampires: "Good of the children to feed us. One way or another. And any self
respecting human will admit that Anne Rice was hot, even after the change."
Trolls: "They not squeak like elf when hit with rock. No fun at all."
