2000 SHOWS

Lucky Guns, Kill Devil Hills-Gentleman Jim's, Murfreesboro, TN-Friday the 13th! October, 2000: This was by far the best show I've seen in a long time. Lucky Guns started off the night a little after 11 with the most amazing rock n roll show this town has probably ever seen. They were total 70's hard-ass rock n roll. The singer and the lead guitarist were all over the place running into each other and into the crowd at random. Mic stands, PBR cans and mullets were flying all over the place. It was insane. After they finished their hard to follow act, the only band around here who probably could follow them, Kill Devil Hills, took the stage, or floor actually. They did the high energy set they've become somewhat famous for. The crowd was really into both of these bands. Kill Devil Hills has a split CD out with the Colour Blue and as far as I know, Lucky Guns haven't released anything yet, but if they do, it would be in your best interest to pick it up. Kill Devil Hills, The Colour Blue-Sun Skatepark, Murfreesboro, TN-August 26, 2000: This was a benefit for the YMCA-run skatepark in town, which made it a cool event already. The Colour Blue (Chicago) was not my type of music, but they were talented and the kids seemed to like them. They were a bit too artsy for me. Kill Devil Hills on the other hand was really good. They mixed some punk with some hardcore and a tiny hint of Fugazi thrown in for good measure. They had awesome dual and sometimes triple vocal action when the drummer got close to the mic. He was usually too busy goin nuts on the drums. Kill Devil Hills is a high energy show from beginning to end. They have a split CD with The Colour Blue, so keep yer eyes open for that one. Man or Astroman?, The Shipping News-Sebastian's, Murfreesboro, TN-August 18, 2000: This was a first for yours truly. They play a lot of shows everywhere, but this was the first I'd gotten a chance to witness the magic. The opening band, The Shipping News, was terrible. They took their sweet time getting to the stage only to complain about every little thing possible. After their mind numbing 45 minute set, Man or Astroman? began setting up all their gadgets. They had a flying saucer piņata which was busted halfway through the set and candy went flying all through the place. Anyways, they put on a super rad show with no holding back. They rocked it. Groovie Ghoulies-Go! Room 4, Carrboro, NC-June 5, 2000: This was my fourth time seeing the Ghoulies. They were awesome as always. They were on tour with Buck, but for some reason Buck didn't show up for this one. Oh well, no loss to me. I'd never heard of them before now anyways. I was very dissappointed in the opening band though. They were a bit too clean cut for me. They drew in their own crowd who were the only ones to clap during their performance and quickly left once their set was done. There were a ton of Ramones shirt-clad punker kids standing around completely unimpressed by this performance patiently waiting for the Ghoulies to take the stage. Finally after what seemed to be the longest opening act in the world was done, Kepi, Roach, B-Face, and the newest Ghoulie drummer, Amy, took the stage and pounded out an amazing non stop set that made all the waiting seem worthwhile. Kepi was doing his normal hyperactive kid routine which I just love to no end. Roach and B-Face had their rock star poses down on either side of the stage. Behind it all was Amy pounding out the beats with vampirish looks and a snarl that would grab any heterosexual man's attention for quite an amount of time. They played every song I wanted to hear, and some I'd never heard before. They had a good mix of songs from all albums and even some cuts from the new record. Until next year when they tour again with a new record..........LR(supertrash)

The Makers, Runarounds, Apollo Creedence-King's Tavern, Raliegh, NC-May 23, 2000:The first band Apollo Creedence was terrible. I was completely unimpressed. They were way too drunk to do anything remotely involving musical equipment in the first place, and plus the songs they were attempting to play weren't that great anyways. The strange lead singer guy tried to make up for his band's pitiful display by baring it all and showing us his filthy penis and ass. That didn't impress me either. It's been done, and it's not funny anymore. Let dirty naked guy punk die with it's creator, the late, great, GG Allin (RIP). After this terrible waste of time and hearing was over, my former band the Runarounds took the stage. It's hard not too be too harsh about this one, so I'm only gonna say that they sound different now that I'm gone. And finally, the act I had been waiting years to see, the MAKERS stormed the stage!! I was outrageously excited for this one. I had never seen them before and all I heard was good stuff about their shows. They opened up with a little professional wrestler type thing and then they busted right into an awesome song. I wish I knew their song titles, but I don't, so I couldn't tell you what they went into. All I know is that they played "Razorblade" second, which made me a very happy boy. They played a few songs off just about every record, which made for an awesome set. Of course there had to be a drunk guy present to instigate a fight during the Makers as it has become the tradition. The guy first threw a bottle on stage, then followed with a lit cigarette at which point Mike Maker jumped off stage and ran towards him with fist in air and punched him a few times before he was held back by some employees. The rest of the show was damn smooth and impressive. They lived up to every expectation of mine. LR(supertrash)
