Squall

We first meet the star of the adventure in the opening scene during a battle with his apparent archrival, whom we later find out is Seifer. Said to be the taciturn hero of the game, Squall doesn’t take to friends or leadership very well, but later has to take on both during the quest to free the world from a sorceress’s reign. He is best known for being aloof and replying to almost every person with “Whatever” or a mere silence.

A significant attitude change becomes perceptible in Squall as the plot unfolds, particularly after his teaming up with the optimistic Rinoa Heartilly. He seems to develop more in the way of feelings towards others – especially to her – and the brush-offs become less frequent. She brings him out of his shell and teaches him to be more open, although some fic writers do tend to keep Squall as the unfeeling whatever-ing young man we all knew and grew to love from disc one.
