Damage Types
There are four different Types of Damage in Starcraft. The size of a unit is taken into account when calculating the effects of the different types of damage. For example, a Firebat does concussive damage with a splash modifier. Because of this Firebats are very effective against Marines (small unit size) and less effective against Siege Tanks (Large unit size). The Damage Types and their effectiveness in relation to the three unit sizes are as follows :
Normal Damage is equally effective against all unit sizes.Concussive Damage does full damage against Small units, 50% damage against Medium units and 25% against Large units.
Explosion Damage does full damage against Large units, 75% against medium units and 50% damage against Small units.
Splash Damage - Some units, such as a Siege Tanks, also have a Splash Damage Modifier added to their damage. Any units or buildings within a set radius of the target unit takes an additional peripheral amount of damage.
Protoss Shields always take the full damage from any attack.
Buildings - All Buildings have a unit size of Large.
