Rules

"Ah, welcome there!" a tall young man calls. A group of eager young people stand the desk he sits at, holding pieces of paper. He hands you one, as well. "I'm R'att, nice to meet ya'. Go ahead and read these if you want to get a dragon."

Rules?? Bah. You know the drill.

  1. You must have a website. No website, no dragon. Your website cannot be at Neopets.com. And on your homepage, you must have a seperate, already-made page for your persona. This is what I'm asking for when I ask for your URL.
  2. Your page must be at least PG-13 rated. Be sensibile about it! Naked people getting attacked by aliens with their heads cut off is NOT PG-13... (Swearing is okay, as long as it isn't any worse than "Damn.")
  3. You must have a page ready for your dragon to enter. The better the page, the better higher-ranking dragon you get!
  4. That page must not have any other adopted pets other than fire-lizards, felines, canines, runners, or pegflits (visit Oceanside Weyr for info about pegflits) on it! This includes other dragons.
  5. So I know you read this, put korechia in the comments.
  6. You can only Impress one dragon per persona unless I give you permission to Impress again (that means, I agree to let your character Impress twice if I like the character, you must e-mail me about this first. Also, if you have a storyline you want to go through with, say, your character's dragon dies and you want them to Impress again, I'll be more than happy to sign you up for the next clutch.)
  7. You must have a working e-mail address that you check regularly.
  8. Don't give me your homepage! I will not go hunting through it just to find the candidate for Middle. I know I said you must have a homepage, but when I ask for your homepage, I need the URL of the page the dragon will be on.

And now, for some information regarding weyrs and personas...

What's a persona? A persona is a character description. It gives background information on a character, states their demographic information, and is sometimes interactive. Personas are written in paragraph style, too.
What do I need in it? You need to put your persona on your dragon's page before you're able to Impress. You should have the following elements in it:

Why do you need a persona? A persona helps determine what kind of dragon you're likely to get. "Perfect" characters will often get greens and blues. The better your persona, the better dragon you're likely to get. See "Dragon Colors" for more information about what a dragon looks for in a rider. And if I feel something is wrong with your persona, I will delete it.

Naming of Characters, Fire-Lizards, and other creatures of Pern

I can't think of a name!
If you're stuck on a name, pick an Earthen name like Jack, and mess around with the letters. Maybe you could make "Jack" into "Jaekk." Girl names usually end in "a," "e," and "y," but not always (Karen Sugoi comes to mind...) Boy names can end in anything else, but must be able to be shortened to a contraction (Miiki and Reen are just cutting it, try something else, like Toranimah will shorten to T'ran [don't use those names, please!]). So don't name your character Rune or something, okay? -_^ Females do NOT make contractions with their names. (Fae is an obvious exception to the honorific rule, and if you talk it out with me, I can make one for your persona. Which means you e-mail me, not drop a note in the candidate book saying you're persona isn't going to have an honorific. o.O)

What about dragon names?
Dragon names end in "th!" No fire-lizard, human, runnerbeast, or watch-wher's name may end in "th!" (A name like "Bethel" [already used!] is okay, though)

What are the rules regarding fire-lizards, watch-whers, etc.?
As long as it doesn't end in "th," it's fine.

Can I change the name of my persona or dragon?
No. I will be very ticked off if you do this. And you'll upset Miki, forgetting your dragon's name like that... if you want, you can e-mail me and suggest what you would like for your dragon's name (or say so in the comments), but I might allow you to change it after the Impression, provided you get my permission first. You can give your persona a nickname, but I will not allow you to change it after Impression. You can always create a new persona with your new name.

What about honorifics?
Honorifics are given to male riders only. Since your persona is obviously going to be a candidate for Impression, give them a name that will contract easily.

Weyr information...

What is a weyr?
A weyr is a home to one dragon and sometimes multiple fire-lizards with a room for the rider. A Weyr is a home to many dragons and riders. The weyr of a dragon is the dragon's territory and usually it has a nice, sunny ledge outside it (all dragons like sun, there's no such thing as an ice-elemental Pernese dragon!)

What should be in it?
A description of what it looks like. The dragon color affects the weyr so no size estimate is necessary (You wouldn't want a cave fit only for a green to have a gold squashed in, would you?)

What about pets?
You can have five fire-lizards maximum, two felines, a canine, two watch-whers, and a runnerbeast. You may NOT, however, have more than six pets on your page! If you have three fire-lizards, a feline, a watch-wher and runnerbeast, that's fine and dandy. I don't care if your persona is a animal nut. Only SIX, and I even frown upon six. That's a lot of animals to take care of, you know. (And if you have a fire-lizard, it doesn't have to have been adopted here and won't matter if it was.) I'll accept any other kinds of pets, although I frown upon more than one of your candidates having one. (An exception is being laid on Pegflits, see Naming Rules above.)

How do I write my weyr?
I feel it takes a LOT more talent to write a weyr in the third-person, past tense, than it does to write it in an interactive style. You earn immediate brownie points for having a third-person, past-tense weyr. -_^ But please, no first-person stories, unless it's a diary, and no present-tenses. I hate those. Sorry, but I do.

Can I use your characters in my weyr?
Sure! However, try to keep them IN CHARACTER. Miki, for example, just doesn't get angry with anyone, and he's kind of shy and polite. I'll get pretty angry if you make him into a brat, since he's not. Feel free to use F'lik and give him more of a personality than I have. ::laughs::

Bad weyr Good weyr

Filling out the Form

Name Your candidate's name.
E-mail Your e-mail that WORKS AND THAT YOU CHECK OFTEN.
Weyr URL the EXACT URL of the weyr; NOT your homepage!
Comments Any comments you have ABOUT your CANDIDATE. If you have comments on the site in general, I have a guestbook for that on the main page, feel free to use it. :) Male candidates put their persona's dragonrider name here; females can leave it blank. If you have a white/queen-quality weyr and want, say, a bronze, I'll give you it if you're a boy. Girls can request either Greens, Queens or Whites; boys can request Blues, Browns, Greens, Bronzes and Whites. Please don't request a white, and don't say "I'd like a green or gold or white" if your candidate's female. DUH! ^.^;; (Several people have written "I'd like a... DRAGON!" and that's okay, because that's funny. -_- See? Ha ha ha ha. But it's getting overdone. --;)

After you Impress...

  1. Put your dragon's picture on your page, as well as either a stat sheet, or a story explaining everything you can think of about it, within a week over the Impression. Unless you absolutely can't, put the picture up within a week or it will die! If you can't, just e-mail me and tell me why! ^^ (even if you just don't feel like it. I know what that feels like. Trust me. @__@)
  2. Put a link back to Middle Weyr (https://www.angelfire.com/sd/lorith/) so others may Impress as well!
  3. Keep the name your dragon came with. If I find anyone changing their dragon's name, they will be banished from Threadfighting! If you do find yourself very unhappy with the name, e-mail us and we'll talk it out. Just keep in mind all dragon names end in "th," and no human names end in that.
  4. If you didn't link the image, don't worry--I'm constantly changing styles, and there might be an image update sometime this year.

And now that I'm done with playing goddess...

On to the color description!
