--- The Dion Nash Site goes DOMESTIC ---
October
After nine months' rehabilitation and just one Test, Nash's
comeback campaign quickly failed. After experiencing soreness
during the Second Test, he missed the first ODI and scarcely
bowled during team training sessions. Unable to bowl, he helped
out his team by playing the 2nd ODI as a batsman only, before
returning to New Zealand with a back injury. Nash has not
ruled out a return to pace bowling in the future, but for
the time being he is concentrating on batting for Auckland,
aiming to secure a Black Caps batting spot.
September 30
2nd ODI: New Zealand v Zimbabwe at Bulawayo
New Zealand lost by 21 runs
Nash did not bowl; 19
Although the decision had already been made to send Dion Nash
home, owing to the back injury preventing him from bowling,
Nash played as a batsman only in the absence of Chris Harris,
who was ill.
September 19-23
2nd Test: New Zealand v Zimbabwe at Harare
New Zealand won by 8 wickets
Nash 62; 17/11/25/1; 17.3/8/28/0; DNB
Though not 100% fit, Nash's selection was essentially forced
by a large number of injured players. In his comeback test,
Nash and Chris Cairns set a new New Zealand 8th wicket partnership
in Tests of 144, bettering the previous best of 137 set by
Nash with Daniel Vettori during New Zealand v India at Wellington,
1998. Nash bowled only 3 balls on Day 5 due to back soreness.
August
After passing a fitness test on his back, Nash joined the
Black Caps for their tour of Zimbabwe.
January
Nash was ruled out of New Zealand's entire home series against
Australia with a back problem, later revealed to be another
stress fracture. He did play successfully for Auckland as
a batsman only before the injury was diagnosed.
