Review - HyperZone

I first played this game when my brother's friend brought it over to our house. Of course I didn't get a chance to play it that night, but the next morning I woke up before anyone else and had the snes all to myself. I played it till my eyes bled....

Graphics: (6/10) It's not really that pretty. The "3d" graphics are made up by 2 planes and a bunch of scaling sprites. It causes a lot of gritty pixel action, but the illusion is effective and the colors are rich.

Sound: (4/10) The music is kinda like Starcraft's Terran campaign. So it basically sucks. The rest of the sound is your average laser blast and explosions. Nothing to write home about.

Fun: (7/10) The range of movement and F-Zero like speed makes the gameplay prett sweet. It's fun to fight the bosses and there's some cool sections where you dodge pillars of fire and such. Just imaging F-Zero + Space Invaders.

Creativity: (5/10) This type of fly-through shoot-em-up game is usually done from an overhead view. But changing the perspective and making it 3d is definately creative. This game kinda paved the way for games like StarFox.

Multi-Player: No sir.

Tips and Cheats: This is all I could find.

Level select:
Press B(2), L, R, Left(2), Select at the title screen. Then, press Up to select a new level.

Sound test:
Hold L + R and press Start at the title screen. Press A to select the sounds.

Errors: The 3d effects work fine on snes9x
