CRAZY MODIFICATIONS
These are the crazy modifications
done to my bike,
. It
is crazy, but I'm still doing it as I am trying to be creative here and
I'm quite a cheap runner [ still no income yet ]. These crazy mods have
been on my bike since Dec 2002, but I'm not quite sure to post it. Until
today [1 Mar 2003 ], I'm just writing them down here for fun. Try at your
own risk.
SELF MADE K&N AIR FILTER
Have you ever opened the
air box? There's an air filter there looks like a hat. The manual says,
change it every 12000km. As a frequent long distance rider [4000km a month].
That's a big problem for me! Mine was already in the most terrible shape
with tears here and there.
I've read about K&N filters
and found out that it was quite impossible to find a kit for the zxr. I
was not thinking about increase in performance, but I like the fact that
the K&N filter could be used for a life time! Save my pennies a little
bit.
So what did I do? I bought
a K&N car air filter as big as the OEM air filter, cut it out a little
bit, modified it to fit inside the air box and reassemble it all back.
What I get is an air filter that lasts for a lifetime. I only had to think
about regular cleaning at the intervals of 12000km also. No need to buy
OEM filters anymore [ RM80 ]!
What did happen after that?
Of course I saved some money and I think my bike had a little increase
in power. Just as the K&N company claimed. I could feel the power.
Now I could forget about air filter replacement and I'm quite happy with
that,
.
Here are some pictures.

for your bike, please tell me ok! I would be happy to help! Tell
me so I could know that this is not quite a crazy idea after all.
Addtional pictures and
info [16 May 2003]:-
Some friends of mine asked
for more info doing this K&N filter. Here in Malaysia there are small
cone filters for single pistons carbs. The air intake is round with some
diameter. So it is just the matter of buying the right filter diameter
and connecting it. A friend of mine succeed this on his Aprillia 125.
But the thing I'm doing here
is for multi pistons. For the questions from my friends, I hope these pictures
could answer.

Some precautions :-
-Make sure the air filter
doesnt make contact with water.
-Follow the instructions
of K&N installation as in the K&N website.
-If their are symptoms of
lean mixture, you should do some carbs adjusting (usually no problem will
occure).
BLITZ CAR MUFFLER
This one is categorized as
crazy, but not for me. It's not even experimental. I've been doing some
reading and research about exhaust and found out that the muffler doesn't
anyhow affect the engine. Its main purpose is only for noise reduction
and some heat transfer. It also doesn't increase horsepower in anyway.
A person with dyno machine experience will know what I'm trying to say.
I also found out it doesn't have anything to do with back pressure like
2 strokers exhaust.
Some of my fellow bikers
also installed car mufflers on their bikes. As far as I know they had no
problems with it. It is suppose to be no problem with these mufflers as
the zxr is a 4 stroker also. Just like cars. They were happy with their
mufflers. They took aftermarket loud mufflers.
So after several months on
standards I decided to go for car mufflers. I tried some shops but they
couldn't do it because they didn't have the bracket to weld the car muffler
to the OEM exhaust. At the third shop I decided to weld the muffler directly
on the exhaust, a little trouble for me to service the exhaust next time.
I had the chance to try every
muffler in the shop. I tried HKS, Mugen, Matola, Zico, Rimus, Monster all
about 10 mufflers. Then my ears fell in love with the Blitz muffler. The
guy said he wasn't suprised to know I liked that muffler, it was the best
and most expensive muffler [ for 2.5 inches ] they had. It sound very loud
and the guy said Satria and Perdana uses Blitz. I really like the F1 sound
the bike produces, with the Blitz I fell terrific!
Here are some pictures of
the guys doing the muffler,

your bike, please tell me ok! I would be happy to help! Tell

I just bought this bike for
7 months now [Jul 2002] . After this I'll concentrate
on Major modifications.
Any comments are welcomed.
