MAJOR MODIFICATIONS
These are the major modifications done to my bike, . It's not obviously major, but I'll consider it as major because I think its something big. I just write them down here. Although these major things are quite embarrassing, I'll also consider these as tips.
Remote Control
[ The remote
control unit, car relay, car remote before installation ]
[ After installation
and trying to be stuffed under the tank ]
I have installed a remote control unit for my bike. It is from a faulty Wira remote system. A new one could cost hundreds. I have repaired and manipulated the unit so the remote could do special things. Of course with some modifications to the circuit. [ Thanks to zarxr MBC for the idea ].
The system I created could turn the key on/off and also could start the engine. It took me 3 days to finish with each day for learning about the remote, learning about Kawasaki wiring and lastly learning about Kawasaki IC igniter. I also found out that a zxr is a hard bike to steal by means of electronics compared to
below 150cc bikes.
In the same time it acts
as an alarm system and a hidden engine switch. For emergency precautions,
the motorcycle key could still be used. The remote control unit doesn't
drain too much current 10mA. In the case that there is a electronic technician
master that would like to steal my bike by remote electronically, the motorcycle
key still controls the headlock mechanically. I will also be using my SOLEX
when parking as well. You should always take extra precuations to the safety of your bike, .
I needed to use 5 relays
to perform several tasks. I used car relays because I fear of reliability,
even I have lots of electric relays. Car relays could allow 30A and looks
quite rigid. The alarm sound was so loud and annoying, so I turned it off.
Now I could start my engine
from 100 meters without keys. I'm very happy with the system I've set up
and planning to do the same to zarxr's car, :-)
Multi Purpose Control Box
[ The control box
and after wiring to be placed ]
[ Placed at an
easily reached on emergency location ]
I put this here even it's not major because the minor part is quite stuffed. This is the control box of my on/off headlight switch, my emergency light, my all lit signal, remote control reset and remote control power.
Just an easy box I found from nowhere, got some switches, tap several parts of my bike electricals and extended them to the control box. I placed them at a suitable place to reach in case of emergency.
For your information, , the zxr doesn't has a headlight control so in just short travel's [ inside kampung ] for a week the battery will go kong. The alternator will not charge the battery at low RPM. For an elecric starter bike thats a nightmare, even in the day, daymare.
My emergency light, I tap from the signal relay to my signals. And get the function as emergency lights like cars. Useful when in emergency and in high speed. Also useful when parking and raining. [ Nice idea huh , ? ]
My all lit signals, is very common among superbikers. Mine is controllable on/off with the same switch used by the emergency light. [ Save space ]. Used at highway especially when the Singaporean bike's roam. The controllable switch is also useful when I see bapak polisi.
The remote control reset and power switch is there in case my remote control goes crazy and uncontrollable. [ These are very classified information here ]. But I'm not worried because I still hold the remote control set.
My future plans are :
Making my own adjustable rear shocks either cosmetically or installation
[ nearly finish ].
Making a digital meter panel like other big and modern bike [ half way
finish ].
Fibre moulding my motorcycle [ plans and still learning ].
I just bought this bike for 4 months now [Jul 2002] . After this I'll concentrate
on Major modifications.
Any comments are welcomed.
