Dawson & Amber on their picnic...
Dawson: Well, this was a nice surprise. I can't remember the last time I had a picnic.
Amber: I told you that I wanted to make the most of our time together befoe I have to go back to Philly. This is one of many surprises. ( She smiles )
Dawson: Speaking of Philadelphia, I was looking at that brochure you gave me of the university, and I have to say it looks like a great school. I think I might come up one weekend and take a tour.
Amber: That would be great, Dawson. Of course , I would be your tour guide.( She smiles )
Dawson: Of course.
Amber: Why wait? Let's go this weekend.
Dawson: I can't. My mom called this morning. She said they'll be home in a couple of days. I should be here when they return.
Amber: Yeah. I was just looking forward to going away with you. It doesn't matter when.( She smiles )
Dawson: Me too. ( He smiles and kisses her )
Potter Residence- Joey walks in...
Bessie: So, how did it go? Did you tell Dawson what you told me?
Joey: I couldn't. He was with his girlfriend again. They looked so happy together, Bessie.
Bessie: It's like that saying, " You don't know what you're missing til it's gone. "
Joey: Yeah. Did Pacey come by or call?
Bessie: No. He didn't.
Joey: I have to talk to him. I'll see you later, Bessie. ( She leaves )
Joey goes to Pacey, who is at his boat...
Joey: Hey.
Pacey: Hey.
Joey: I think we should talk about last night.
Pacey: Yeah. I think so too.
Joey: So, we had a fight. The " honeymoon stage " doesn't last forever.
Pacey: No. It doesn't, but unfortunately this fight will never be over. It will just keep repeating.
Joey: What do you mean?
Pacey: Dawson. You two have a history that I can't compete with and I don't even want to try. When we were on our trip this summer, it was like we were the only two people in the world. But not that the trip is over, reality has set in. You will never love me the way you love Dawson and I know you still love him.
Joey: You're right. I haven't been honest with you. I haven't been honest with myself either. Yesterday, after we got back, I went to see Dawson. When I got to his house, reality set in. He's moved on. He has a beautiful girlfriend.
Pacey: And jealousy hit you?
Joey: Yeah. It really surprised me because I thought I had moved on, but I didn't. I was just running away from my fear. You were the safe choice, Pacey.
Pacey: Yeah. I should have seen this coming. Andie and Doug warned me. Even a movie parallels my life now.
Joey: What movie is that?
Pacey: " My Best Friend's Wedding " I'm Julia Robert's character.
Joey: How do you figure that?
Pacey: After Dawson found out about us, he ran to his room, you followed. At the anti-prom, Dawson ran out, you followed again. See a pattern? You always chased after him and nobody chased after me. You're Cameron Diaz's character and he is Dermot Mulroney's.
Joey: I'm sorry.
Pacey: Don't be. The heart doesn't lie. I'm glad you finally realize what you want.
Joey: I've ruined everything. My relationship with Dawson, your relationship with him.
Pacey: Well, it's not completely your fault. We both made bad choices which felt right at the time, but ultimately weren't. I don't think your relationship with Dawson is ruined. That boy is always going to love you. When we were on our camping trip doing a little male-bonding, he said that you were his conscience, his soulmate, and his inspiration. Feelings like that don't change overnight.
Joey: But, it hasn't been overnight. It's been three months. That's a long time to heal and move on.
Pacey: Well, you won't know until you ask him.
Joey: I know. What about you? Do you think you and Dawson could be friends again?
Pacey: I would like to, but I honestly don't think so. I broke the code. " Dont' let a girl come between you and your best friend. " But I couldn't help it. You're just too damn lovable, Potter.
Joey: Actually, I think it was lust, Pacey.
Pacey: You're probably right.
Joey: Well, this has definitely got to be the best break-up I have ever had.
Pacey: Yeah. No dumper or dumpee. A mutual understanding.
Joey: So, what happens now?
Pacey: I think you're supposed to leave and tell the guy you love everything you're feeling. Good luck, Potter. Thanks for a fun summer.
Joey: You too, Pacey. Thanks. ( She smiles )
She leaves and heads back to Dawson's house...
