Joey stands outside the Leery house. She's hesistant at first, but finally she starts walking closer to it, she notices the ladder is gone and looks sad. She knocks on the door, Dawson answers...

Dawson: ( surprised ) Hey.

Joey: Normally, I would use the ladder, but well, you know.

Dawson: Do you want to come in?

Joey: Yeah. ( She goes inside ) I'm not interrupting anything am I?

Dawson: No. Amber had some errands to run.

Joey: Okay. I just wanted to come by and talk to you. We really didn't get to yesterday.

Dawson: No. We didn't.

Joey: I really have a lot I want to say. I don't know where to start. ( She looks at him very seiously ) I'm sorry. I know I really hurt you and you have to believe that I never wanted to.

Dawson: I believe you, Joey. I know you didn't mean to fall in love with Pacey.

Joey: But that's just it, Dawson. I've come to realize that I was never in love with him. We have both agreed that we're better off friends. It was always you that I was in love with,, but I was scared of that, so I ran from it. I'm not scared anymore, Dawson. You were right. Pacey was a vacation. You are my " home ". Where I want to be.

Dawson: ( small laugh, then shakes his head ) So, you thought you would come over and tell me this and I would just magically say let's give it another go? Sorry, Joey, but it doesn't work that way. Do you have any idea of the hell you put me through? What it was like to see the only person you ever loved run away from you?

Joey: ( tears forming ) I told you I was sorry. I never wanted to do that. I had to know if anything was there between me and Pacey. That's why I went away with Pacey for the summer. To figure things out. I did. I figured out that I want to be with you. ( tears stop )

Dawson: It's been three months, Joey. A lot of things have changed.

Joey; So, I noticed. Where did you meet Amber?

Dawson: Two summers ago in Philadelphia. We were both interns at the station where my mom was working. She came to visit over the summer and things developed. She makes me happy. Something I haven't felt in the longest time.

Joey: It looks like both of our summers were eye-opening experiences. Me realizing that you're the person I want to be with and you realizing that you don't need me anymore.

Dawson: I didn't say that I didn't need you, Jo. It's just like when you needed to figure things out. Well, it's my turn to do that now. Don't you think I deserve that?

Joey: Yeah. Of course, you do, Dawson. I'm just going to go now.

She spots the brochure of the university in Philadelphia...

Joey: Are you thinking about going to college in Philly?

Dawson: Yeah I am. Amber's going to take me on a tour of the university when my parents get back.

Joey: Wow! She sounds like the perfect gilfriend. I'm happy you're happy, Dawson. You deserve like you said, after the hell I put you through. I have to go.

She leaves, clearly upset. She sits on the dock, Jen sees and goes to her...

Jen: Hey, Joey.

Joey: ( wipes away her tears ) Hey.

Jen: You don't have to do that.. Go ahead. Cry. So, I take it you know all about Amber? I don't get it, Joey. I thought you loved Pacey.

Joey: I thought I did too, but I was wrong. I love Dawson. Only I realized it too late.

Jen: So, you feel " dumper's remorse "? I know how that goes. I've felt it myself.

Joey: Over Dawson.

Jen: How did you know about that?

Joey: It was pretty obvious.

Jen: Those are days that I would rather forget. I'm not that girl anymore. Thank God

Joey: You believe in God now?

Jen: Grams is getting to me. ( she smiles )

Joey: So, how are things with you and Henry?

Jen: They're great. He comes back from football camp one week before school starts.

Joey: That's great. ( She looks around the dock ) This place holds a special memory for me.

Jen: About you and Dawson?

Joey: Yeah. It was the night of the pep rally and I had just seen Dawson on the stage with bleach-blondie. Well, it upset me, so after Pacey dropped me off, I came here and just stared down at the water. Dawson came home and he saw me. We sat and talked and I asked him, " so what are we now? " He said " We're Dawson & Joey " an then he gave me his necklace. It was one of the sweetest moments I ever had. ( She smiles ) And now that's all I have left. His necklace. Amber has everything else.

Jen: Do you need a hug?

Joey smiles and Jen hugs her..

Jen: Who would have thought that Joey Potter and Jen Lindley would actually bond? ( She smiles )

Joey: Definitely not me. Thank you, Jen. It' s nice to have somebody to talk to that doesn't have any romantic intentions.

Jen: Well, you are cute, but I don't swing that way. ( She smiles )

They laugh and continue sitting on the dock..
