By correctly guessing who killed her alter ego's best friend, "Veronica Mars" star Kristen Bell won a little money in an office pool and the knowledge that she successfully navigated the fledgling UPN show's many twists and turns.

Update Feb 8th, 2005

Inspired by Veronica's clever ploy of writing "Veronica Mars is smarter than me" on the bills in Clash of the Tritons, a few fans at Televisions Without Pity thought it would be fun to design a Veronica Mars themed two dollar bill to ask for a second season. So far there are two bill designs, here and here. Just write "Veronica Mars is smarter than me" on the bills and send them to UPN. You might also include your gender, general age range, and location to show UPN that Veronica Mars has a very diverse fan base. You can read more about this campaign at the TWoP board. Here's the addresses for the top UPN executives and the UPN affiliates.

For those of you who don't keep up with the ratings, Veronica Mars has finished dead last in it's timeslot almost every single week since it premiered. If it wasn't for the huge amount of critical acclaim, the show would have been canceled months ago. While Dawn Ostroff (UPN's president) has shown tremendous patience, faith, and support for the show, there has been no word yet on whether or not this ratings challenged show will be picked up for a second season. If you want the show to return next season, tell everyone you know to watch this show.

Update December 23rd, 2004

I have been selected by UPN to be a member able to view their Veronica Mars webpage items. I am able to get images and movies from them. As you see I have taken up their offer; thank you so much!; and I have updated the site. I have added movies, and I have added AIM Icons, wallpapers. I am so happy. :)

Bell's appeal is no 'Veronica Mars' puzzle

NEW YORK - At 24, Kristen Bell looks young even for a 17-year-old, which is the age of the sleuthing title character she plays on UPN's Veronica Mars.
But spend more than 30 seconds with Bell - or just take in one of her performances - and you get the message: She is not to be dismissed. A fine-featured blonde from Detroit, little more than 5 feet tall, she is sure to make a big impression.

Update December 14th, 2004

"That said, I'm giddy at being able announce that the winner of our first annual Watch It, Already! award--honoring the best show people are (stupidly) not watching--is none other than (drumroll please)...UPN's Veronica Mars!

Two words: Woo-woo!

I visited the set to break the news to the cast, and they were thrilled at the win--and not just in the usual "I'm so Hollywood even my emotions are plastic" kind of way.

Kristen Bell, Miss Veronica Mars herself, actually got a little teary-eyed (I dookie you not) and gushed, "Oooh, that's so sweet! Thank you! Our audience is climbing, people are telling their friends, so, please, guys, keep telling your friends!"

Enrico Colantoni, the Just Shoot Me alum who plays Bell's dad, got a little, um, overexcited--which you can see for yourself right here in this Enrico Colantoni video clip. (And remember, he's the adult on the show. Imagine how the young'uns reacted.)

And now, for the plea. If you haven't seen this new series, you must, must check it out. The series might look like a fluffy teenybopper show, but I assure you, it is anything but. Yes, the show is about a, ahem, 17-year-old girl, ahem, but the storylines are just as complex, compelling, edgy and witty as anything you'll see on Desperate Housewives or Lost. Bold statement, I know, and I stand by it.

In case you need a little more coaxing, here are five great reasons to get on that couch Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. and watch Veronica Mars, already--dangit!

1. Kristen Bell: When asked the best reason to watch his show, costar Teddy Dunn (Duncan) says with a laugh, "Kristen's hot! What more do you want?"

Adds Percy Daggs (Wallace), "How can you not love Kristen Bell?" I have to agree. This girl is a star. No two ways about it.

Kristen is charismatic and dripping with talent--if those Globes voters have any wits about them, they'll nominate her this Monday morning--and the best part is, she's so endearingly humble that you can pay her such compliments and not worry about it going to her head."

Update December 5th, 2004

Remember watch Veronica Mars tuesday!!!

Update December 3rd, 2004

From Eonline: "Now, please, please, if you watch Veronica Mars, email me the questions you want to ask the cast. Also, we're still working on that feature that highlights the best low-rated show this season, the one you want to tell the world to start watching! Desperate Housewives and Lost are ineligible, but Veronica Mars, Life As We Know It and The Mountain can certainly be nominated. Got it? Please email me the name of the low-rated show you love most. Then check back Friday for a glorious new (well, new anyway) column! Thanks for being here. Let the tube be with you."

From bjg2002: What has the bigger ewww factor: Veronica possibly dating her half-brother or the good ol' Cordy-Connor hookup? Oh, but we can't forget about the sibling sexiness with Kate Bosworth on Young Americans, can we? Still, I say Veronica takes the cake, but in a good way. And there is much more scandalous drama in the works. eoline

Information about the show.

Update December 1st, 2004

Variety says:
"Veronica Mars" is the smartest teen-oriented drama since "Freaks and Geeks." A unique and inspired looked at teen angst shrouded in a P.I. show, the UPN drama features Kristen Bell in the lead role - as charismatic as she is tough and intelligent, giving a multilayered perf that touches on simple 17-year-old insecurity and convincingly incorporates deeper issues concerning family, love and disappointment. The rare UPN show with cinematic ambition has the potential to draw in "The OC" crowd, especially with its enticing use of contempo rock music, and then build from there

The Hollywood Reporter raves:
Many critics will stand up and applaud "Veronica Mars." I will too, but pilots like this one worry me. The premiere of this series is so cleverly constructed, the hero so engaging and complicated and the story so filled with great dialogue that I wonder how anyone can sustain this level of accomplishment. If future episodes are half as good, this still will be one of TV's bright spots. Creator/exec producer Rob Thomas originally figured Veronica Mars to be the main character in a forthcoming book, which perhaps explains the complexity of the character. Veronica has all the sass, strength, resolve and ingenuity of any of literature's classic detectives. The treat here is seeing these characteristics embodied in a high school student who daily faces the challenges of peer pressure, social hazing, romantic dreams and the rigors of academics. So what if no typical high school girl could hold her own against a gang of motorcycle bikers or the targeted cruelty of "in" crowd members? Bell is so convincing in the role that it all somehow makes perfect sense. The premiere, written by Thomas, has comedy, deathly serious drama, parody and danger, ingredients not typically mixed together. With "Veronica Mars," the resulting blend is a new TV flavor, and it's delicious. if UPN can get viewers into the tent, they're likely to come back for more.

Entertainment Weekly says:
We think it may be to UPN what Karen Sisco was to ABC: a smartly cast drama, with a female hero whos too tough for young women to identity with and too soft for your average 18-24 male. And those two demos have probably gotten hooked on a new-generation WB show, the competing One Tree Hill.

TV Guide says:
teen noir with a moody blend of adolescent angst, family drama and mystery. Youll root for her Has cult favorite written all over it - if UPN gives it time to catch on.

The Los Angeles Times says:
The show's writing is clever. The resourceful and fearless Veronica, no namby-pamby Nancy Drew, describes her ex-boyfriend's best friend Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring) as her high school's "obligatory psychotic jackass." Bell does such a good job playing the world-weary Veronica that she manages to get away with voice-over lines like "I'm no longer that girl" and "The detective in me knew something was wrong" without sounding silly. She channels the charisma, smarts and frustration of Angela Chase, Claire Danes' character in "My So-Called Life."

USA Today gives it three and a half stars (out of four) and says:
Think Buffy. Luckily for Veronica, she has sharp wits, steely nerves and a wicked sense of humor along with a big dog to keep the bad guys in line. Luckily for us, UPN has found a terrific young actress to play this terrifically engaging character: Kristen Bell. Whether you buy the idea of teen crime-solvers or not, there's no questioning Bell's credentials as a TV star. Now let's hope UPN gives Veronica the time it needs. This is one TV case we don't want to see closed.

Updated cast

Nov 4th, 2004
VERONICA MARS is set in the wealthy, seaside community of Neptune, where the rich and powerful make the rules, own the town and the high school, and desperately try to keep their dirty little secrets just thatsecret. Unfortunately for them, there's Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell) a smart, fearless 17-year-old, apprentice private investigator dedicated to solving the town's toughest mysteries.

During the day, Veronica must still negotiate high school like any average teenage girl. Along with fellow outcast, sophomore Wallace Fennel (Percy Daggs III), she bravely maneuvers her classes, wary of former in-crowd friends, like ex-boyfriend Duncan Kane (Teddy Dunn) and his best friend Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring), and edgy outsiders, like Weevil (Francis Capra) and his P.C.H. Bike Club boys.

At night, Veronica looks after her former-Sheriff father Keith Mars (Enrico Colantoni) and helps with his struggling, new private investigator business. By sneaking through back alleys and scoping out no-tell motels with a telescopic-lens camera and her math book, Veronica attempts to uncover the California beach town's darkest secrets, including who killed her best friend and Duncan's sister, Lilly, and created a scandal that cost her father his job, his home and wife.

Pushed to the edge of this multicultural, venomous little Peyton Place, Veronica Mars relentlessly continues to search for evidence that will clear her father's name and get her back into the "in-crowd," but what she finds may tear the town of Neptune apart at the seams.
