This Page features some of the Animals found in Australia , it is by far not complete, only to show some off :-) Click on the Picture to see the larger Image and some more about them :-) The song Waltzing Matilda kindly supplied by Mr. Bernard Low from Brisbane ;-)
My personal favourite one is the Koala The Koala feeds on special Eucalyptus leaves only and is in danger from developers, the cutting down of trees to make room for dwellings :-(
Of course our Roo is very well known too and several species of this unusual Animal are found here
Next the Emu which together with the Roo is part of our Coat of Arms, standing on either side of it , facing each other. Why these 2 Animals ?? because both cannot walk backwards only forwards, as we believe Australia is, forward in all aspects, never going back :-)
Another of our native Animals is the Platypus, very unique, look for yourself :-)
The Dingo is also native to Australia, looks like a dog, not many are tamed except in the outback
We also have the Possum here some of which are protected and if caught will have to be released into national parks
Another Animal we find here is the Echidna
The Frilled Neck Lizard is well liked in some Asian countries
The Goanna is very common ,some Aborigine tribes eat them after wrapping them into gum leaves and then cook in the ground between hot rocks
The Wombat is a very slow animal and gets very heavy, if hit by a car it will do a lot of damage to the car
Our Birds are very colourful here and abundant, like the Kookaburra and also flight less birds like the Cassowary
