Select the CPU The processor is the
computer chip, which provides the computer’s processing capability.
It is the nucleus of the computer. The
control unit reads and interprets program instructions, directs the operations
of internal components and controls the flow of programs and data in and out of
RAM. The ALU (arithmetic and logic
unit) performs all logic and computation operations.
There are several different manufacturers and types of CPUs, such as
INTEL Pentium III, IV and Celeron, and AMD Athlon and Duron. ***
The CPU must be compatible with the motherboard. The
speed is how fast the CPU takes in input and puts out output to the other
components. The
CPU’s bus transfers electrical signals, serving as the computer’s transit
system. The bus interfaces with the
memory (RAM) and must match its clock speed. Cache
memory is designed to further increase the transfer of instructions and data to
the CPU. It increases the
system’s throughput, or rate at which work is performed, as a high-speed
holding area. |
