| "Under The Chesapeake" is part of a non-profit
organization called "The Undersea Research Foundation", which studies marine
life under the Chesapeake Bay, in part by using BAYLAB, and the
Yellow Submarine, as pictured here.

Dr. Morgan Wells, along with Charlie
Depping and Jim Devereux, maintain and update the area tourist locations to make
the visitors of Mathew's County aware and interested in the
underwater life in the bay. Dr. Wells also spends time on the road giving
lectures about the underwater creatures in the Chesapeake Bay. All
proceeds from these educational events go to support the operations of the
organization. |
Although there are many projects in planning stages, there are several
important on-going projects.

Currently, we maintain 3 interactive displays. The
Mathews County Visitor & Information Center, and the Mathews Memorial
Library both have aquariums, where individuals can see first hand samples of
local marine life, and learn various ways to help keep the Bay clean. The
Mathews Library, the Visitor's Center, and the Gwynn's Island Museum have videos on display
for public enjoyment and education of the marine life in our area.
