The Red Cross Youth seeks to :
The Red Cross runs school-based youth programmes and is an Extra-Curricular Activity recognised by the Ministry of Education. The Red Cross Youth has two programmes one for the Primary school children (Link programme) and another for secondary school youths (Cadet programme). The organisation of youth activities under this system has produced good results with both the Link units and Cadet units, enthusiastically pursuing a series of activities ranging from social/recreational to community programmes.
The Red Cross Youth Division is also comprised of HQ-based volunteers who are Pre-University students, Polytechnic students or working adults. More commonly known as the RCY Division, the Red Cross Youth has maintain its presence in the youth community with the motto : "Serve One Another"
The Rank System
Being a uniform group, the RCY adopted a rank system with the purpose of goal setting for the various groups of volunteers. Voulunteers are encouraged to excel and achieve the criteria for each rank. In 1999, the rank system was restructured and modified. The new ranks are slotted into the epaulettes of their uniform, except for the link members.
Links
The Links are basically Primary school members. They wore cloth badges above the left
chest pocket of their uniform. Currently, the badges are in the order of one star, two
stars and three stars.
Cadets
The Cadets are basically secondary school members. With each promotion, the cadet is
also awarded an ECA point up to a maximum of 5 points. The various ranks for a Cadet are
Lance Corporal (LCP), Corporal (CPL), Sergeant (SGT), Staff Sergeant (SSG), Warrant
Officer (WO) and Senior Warrant Officer (SWO).
Cadet Officers
Cadet Officers are volunteers who completed their secondary school education. With
their exposure in Secondary School Cadet Units, they serve as volunteers, rendering
services to meet the objectives of the RCY. This ranges from training of links and cadets,
community service, fund raising and international exchange. The various ranks for a Cadet
Officer are Assistant Cadet Officer (ACO), Cadet Officer (CO), Senior Cadet Officer (SCO)
and Principal Cadet Officer (PCO).
Youth Officers
Youth Officers are basically adult volunteers or school teachers who provide guidance
to the Cadet and Cadet Officers. The various ranks for Youth Officers are Assistant Youth
Officer (AYO), Youth Officer (YO) and Senior Youth Officer (SYO).
Divisional Officers
Divisional Officers are adult volunteers designated with specific
responsibilities and
to providing guidance to the various working groups within the RCY. This ranges from
managing RCY school districts or RCY HQ units. Divisional Officers consists of
Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO), Divisional Officer (DO) and Senior Divisional Officer
(SDO).
The Director and Deputy Director of RCY are Senior Divisional Officer appointed to lead the RCY.
Currently, the cadet units are grouped into 4 districts.

The curriculum propose 9 core activities and 2 optional activites. The activities should be covered within the constraints set by individual schools. The hours recommended should not be viewed as a standard, but rather a guide on the percentage of time for each subject. For the badges to be awarded to Cadets, a more detailed reference is available (Ref: Red Cross Youth Incentive Badge Scheme).

In addition, members are encouraged to be actively involved in health and fitness issues, personal and environmental hygiene.
There are also enrichment courses organised by Headquarters. Cadets are encouraged to sign up. These courses are on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Registration for First Aid Examination
The Red Cross Training Centre (RCTC) conducts Standard First Aid Examinations on Saturdays for Red Cross Cadets. Each examination session is limited to 30 cadets on Saturday mornings (except public holidays) at the RCTC, Red Cross House Level 3 from 0900hrs to 1200hrs. Please fill in Form S and submit to the Volunteer Development Division, Red Cross House, at least 3 weeks before the date of examination.
All cadets are to wear their the standard RCY name tag over the right chest
when in full uniform.
During training or services in mufti, the standard RCY name tag is to be worn
over the left chest above any Red Cross emblem or school crest.
The name tag has a measures 7.5 cm by 1.9 cm. The background colour is Pantone 485. The name shall be printed in Arial font. Presently, there is only one supplier: Do share with us if there is any other suppliers.
