Discovery Optic (McLane) Variant

Name Discovery Optic
Category Pacific Salmon
Hook Size 2/0, 3XL
Body Flat Gold Tinsel Ribbed with Oval Gold Tinsel
Wing Red Polar Bear or Sub, mixed with Red Crimped Nylon over Yellow Polar Bear or Sub
Head Built up Large Optic Style with Tying Thread; Paint White with Black Eyes and Yellow Pupils

There are several color variations of this fly developed by A.J. McClane for the Campbell River area in British Columbia, where he had great success with it. I took a few liberties with the materials. The wing for this fly is made from a synthetic material called Fish-Fuzz, the top wing angora, the crimped nylon subbed with yellow crystal flash. The head is made with a painted optic bead instead of built up tying thread. Other color variations of this fly will be coming. See Discovery Optic Variant 1 and Discovery Optic Variant 2.
