Blue Star Markers in Washington State
The Blue Star marker program was started in 1944 by the New Jersey
Federation of Garden Clubs as a memorial to U.S. veterans of World War II. The
National Council of State Garden Clubs, now called National Garden Clubs, Inc.,
expanded the program nationally in 1945. The program was later extended to
include all veterans.
The
National Garden Clubs site has more information about this program.
