This is
our little mansion. My dad and his two brothers were born here. But as
you can see it is in very bad repair and currently undergoing restoration.
During Ceauscescu's regime it was used as an orphanage for retarded children
with AIDS. There were no sanitary installations left, no heating and probably
only limited electricity. My dad had the children moved to a proper facility
with real doctors and nurses who will finally be able to look after them
properly.

This is the house seen from the garden.
The building you can just make out behind that tree is a chapel where my
dad was christened.

This is the view from the big balcony
at the front of the house overlooking the remains of the driveway. Those
trees were planted by my grandmother when she was newly married.

My brother, me and our friend Chris in what will one day be the dining room.
We grew up with Chris and his brother Tom and to me they feel like family.

This is Mischi, one of my very
best friends and I in front of the main entrance to the house. Mischi just finished her architectural diploma at the prestigious
ETH (Federal Technological University) in Zurich. She is quite brilliant
and as always made me appreciate the surrounding architecture so much more.

This is the helicopter that flew us
back to Bucharest. It landed near the house in Popesti in a field.
The guys in front of it are my brother
in the middle, my family's agent Bujor on the right (his left I guess),
Dan Bujor's nephew to the left and Chris kneeling in front. The guy with
the bag is one of the pilots and the crowd behind the heli are the local
people who gathered to have a look at what is happening.
