Maquis Information

The Maquis are an underground terrorist group near the Cardassian border. When the Federation and the Cardassian Union established borders between them in mid-2370, they created an area between them called the Demillitarized Zone. Some colonist in the Demillitarized Zone believed that there government has abandoned them. The result was the formation of the Maquis.

The Maquis main bases are in the Badlands, an area of space with massive plasma storms. It is located in the Alpha Quadrent near DS9 and the Cardassian Union. The Maquis thought this the most oppertune place to hide, because almost no starship would dare to enter it. Soon the Maquis began to take on a more millitant pose, getting more ships and weapons. Starfleet was begining to worry about them. Then on Stardate 417582 the Maquis captured a Cardassian weapon. They named it Dreadnought. The Klingon war with the Cardassians gave the Maquis a chance to step up there raids and actions. Starfleet Intelligence believes that they have built several new bases in the Badlands.

Starship Voyager's originol mission was to capture a Maquis vesel in the Badlands, however an entity known as the Caretaker sweeps both ships 70,000 light years away to the Delta Quadrent. Captain Janeway decided to combine the two crews. Making Maquis officers Chakotay first officer, B'Elanna Torres chief engineer, and former Maquis Tom Paris helmsman. The crew functioned well together until the episode "Learning Curve" where Security Chief Tuvok conducted a class similar to that as in a Starfleet Academy course. Captain Janeway gave the order and was pleased by the results when the course was done.

In the episode "Hunters" when the crew are recieving letters from home, Chakotay gets a letter from one of his old Maquis friends. He tells him that all most all of the Maquis have been killed by the Cardassian's new allies, the Dominion. Chakotay breaks the news to B'Elanna, who does not take it very well.
