Sting appears on Walker...

  • Sting appeard on Walker Texas Ranger on Saturday April 28, 2001.

I caught the recent edition of Walker, Texas Ranger, and WCW superstar (or now former) Sting was indeed on the show. Upon the opening credits, it said Guest Starring: Steve Borden, which is Sting's real name if you didn't know. For the show, Sting was named Grangos and he was the leader of a biker gang called the Raptors. The Raptors, led by Sting, was a biker gang responsible for distributing crystal meth. Walker, who is Chuck Norris, sent two officers undercover to undermine Sting's evil biker gang for their drug pushing. Sting eventually initiated the two officers into his biker gang, and they were going to be in on a big drug deal. Eventually, the evil biker and drug dealing Sting got his in the end. Sting did well for his role, despite the show resembling the biker movie called "Stone Cold" (not Austin), starring Brian Bosworth as an undercover cop, trying to bust a biker gang. Sting seemed to have shorter hair, grew some facial hair, and he wore a bandana for the whole show. I also took a crude picture with a digital camera of what he looked like on the show.

    The Night of the Champions...

Sting Appears on the WCW Season Final.

  • After being gone, Sting makes an appearance on the WCW Season Final -- The Night of the Champions to wrestle Ric Flair one more time...

Ric Flair immediately came down to the ring and commented on Vince McMahon's announcement, maintaining WCW wrestlers held their own against the WWF for years. Flair also bragged that he was at the top of his game when Vince was just an announcer. Flair gave a heartfelt speech about his time in WCW, putting over everyone he worked with, before challenging Sting to a match on TNT's final Nitro.

After we have not seen him for months, Sting was backstage saying that he would never have missed the Night of Champions for anything. Sting promised his fans that he and The Nature Boy would tear it down one more time for WCW. Later that night Sting and Flair locked horns once again, ready to relive history for WCW fans in attendance and around the world. Flair showed respect for Sting's strength, backing into the corner after a press slam. The dirtiest player in the game got The Stinger close enough to land a low blow, just out of referee Charles Robinson's sight. Ric landed stinging chops to Sting's chest, but the fans got the seven-time champion back in the game. Flair locked on his trademark figure four leglock, wearing down the painted warrior's legs. Sting came to his feet and applied the Scorpion Death Lock for the win. Flair and Sting embraced after the match, showing the tremendous respect they had for each other.

  • The new set is called WCW Ring Rage, it includes Sting, Booker T, Bryan Adams, Bryan Clark and Scott Steiner. ToyBiz told us that this set is special order from a UK store, much like JAKKS has done with those Finishing Moves single packs (I wonder if they're the same store getting themselves ready for a big wrestling product line) and not to expect them in the states. There is a chance, however, that they could see release in the states under the Ring Rage banner, but ToyBiz didn't want to confirm that until after Toy Fair. Another option, that we'd gamble on, is that you'll see these figures spotlighted in some other form in the US. Under a different card of some sort.

If DDP, Ric Flair and possibly Sting accept buy outs there is a good chance you'll see them in WWF or the new WCW.

Blond behemoth Hulk Hogan (Terry Bollea) has inked a deal with Universal Studios to create a new federation, I can reveal. According to various sources Hogan -- who first became a household name in the World Wrestling Federation -- will team with Goldberg, Sting and Jimmy Hart in this new venture. The original start date was May 1st, but was shelved due to the WWF's acquisition of WCW. Hogan is currently in California to consult a specialist before he undergoes knee surgery later this month. USA Network may pick up programming rights and shows could be broadcast from Universal parks themselves. An insider told me: "Universal wants Hogan to get his knee taken care of before they begin this whole deal. Rumors of Randy Savage and Jerry Lawler doing commentary are not true... at least not on Randy's end!"

    Ryan Timm & wrestlingdotcom.com

On the Lytle And Lamb morning Peoria Mean Gene closes by telling the guys that Steve "Sting" Borden would not be returning to the ring. Apparently he has saved his money well, plus the rest of his contract left, and that he was a good Christian family man and that he wants to spend time doing that.

    Fred Cook & wrestlingdotcom.com

The only big name on the WCW roster (meaning past World Champs, really) is Booker T, since none of the other former champs have jumped from their very expensive Time Warner contracts. However, a new feeling is going around that since the WWF is only running one WCW show a week, the revenue generated from the show would be too low to hire such stars as Sting, Bill Goldberg, Diamond Dallas Page, and Ric Flair. Note that other reports say that the WWF is talking to Flair, and that DDP has hinted working for the new WCW.

    Mr Tito & lordsofpain.net

Word is that Sting has little interest in joining the WWF and will announce his retirement from the business in the next few weeks.

The Maine Lottery recently issued a WCW theme game for their instant scratch-off lottery tickets? The collectible game has photos of Dallas Page, Goldberg, Sid Vicious, Nash, Sting, Rey Mysterio, Booker T, Luger, Konnan, Jeff Jarrett, Buff, and Scott Steiner. There is a special t-shirt with all of the above available as a prize (along with cash). This is the last time all of the above might be on a t-shirt. You can buy a Maine lottery ticket at any Maine lottery retailer. This is the fifth State lottery to have these collectible games.

    Alexi Franklin & crimsonmask.com

The WWF will be having several major meetings over the next few days to attempt to draw up a "battle plan" and hire people for the WCW relaunch. It is being said that office employees will be hired before new talent is hired. As far as the possibility of big name WCW stars in the new WCW, it is really up to Time Warner as the company needs to offer and negotiate buyouts of their contracts before any serious negotiations may be discussed. However, Time Warner has not made this task a major priority and as of two days ago, none of the major stars have received any word on their contract situations in terms of buyouts.

    Alexi Franklin & crimsonmask.com

Chances of Bill Goldberg and Sting appearing in the WWF or the new WCW are very slim. Both of them have showed no interest in contract buyout from Time Warner. It looks as if Goldberg has decided to sit out, and collect the rest of his pay as per the contract for the next two years while Sting is rumored to officially announce his retirement from wrestling soon.

    Liam Manton & wrestlingdotcom.com

It is doubtful Sting will accept a buyout of his contract by Time Warner/AOL so don't count on seeing him in the WWF/WCW anytime soon.

    Matt Boone & crimsonmask/com

Sources are now telling us that the new tentative date for a launch of the new WCW is June 13 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA. Tentative dates following the launch are June 20 at the Coliseum in Jacksonville, and June 27 at the Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, PA. The above dates are tentative, and could change.

    Alexi Franklin & crimsonmask.com

According to WrestleLine,The first WCW PPV under WWF ownership should be around late August, or sometime in the month of September.

    Chad Brown & crimsonmask.com

The WWF has fired almost the entire WCW roster. They retained about 20 guys, and it's being said that none of them were big money players. The only main eventer from WCW that the WWF has high hopes in is Booker T. The WWF doesn't like Goldberg too much, but realize there is potential for a lot of big money matches so they may try to sign him. Sting, is another person the WWF may want if he decides to buyout of his contract from Time Warner.

    Aziz & wrestlingdotcom.com

The main reason the WCW TV taping was postponed is simply because the WWF feels they aren't ready to go with the new WCW. There is so much to organise from talent, agents, sets to design and most importantly booking plans. Because the WWF wants to do well with the ratings and make a good first impression, they will probably hold off for a June debut.

    Blake Wolfson & lordsofpain.net

Sting, who wrestled in Nitro’s final match against Ric Flair, is apparently planning on retiring after his contract with Time Warner is up. Some people feel that he is simply leveraging a better deal from the WWF, but the general feeling is that Sting, as a born-again Christian, has saved enough to retire, and will be happy just spending more time with his family. It is currently unknown if we will ever see him in a wrestling ring again.

    John Banchansky & iowrestling.com

Jim Ross stated in his report on WWF.com that the return for WCW TV has been pushed back to June 9th. He stressed that the date is still tentative and may be changed once again. Many sources say that the return will most likely be sometime in May, June, or July. It is quite possible that the return date for WCW could be at the end of the year. These are all just rumored dates and none are 100% confirmed yet. WWF.com, along with many other top sources claim that the return date will indeed be June 9, 2001. But they still give the idea that the date may change once again.

I recently got a call from an informer of mine in Virginia, who attended a recent Maryland Championship Wrestling (MCW) show and fortunately got a chance to speak to one of the wrestlers. Apparantly, Sting and Lex Luger, who own a string of gyms called Main Event, are in the midst of starting their own promotion, called Main Event Wrestling. They've already spoken to FOX about a Monday Night slot opposite WWF Raw is War and they've also talked to former WCW employees, including wrestlers such as Rick Steiner, Shane Douglas, and they even placed a call to Goldberg! This has not been 100% confirmed yet, but this is a strong rumor at worst and will be looked into further.

    Justin Rowland & crimsonmask.com

Shane McMahon is actually interested in having Scott Steiner, Booker T, Sting, Goldberg and Ric Flair in the new WCW. Those are the only major players that he is interested in. A week or two ago, many were reporting that Steiner wouldn't have a job in the new WCW nor WWF, but fans have given off the sense that they do want Steiner in one of the promotions. It was actually being rumored that Booker T would join the WWF, but now it seems that he will be WCW's top face. It is being rumored that Sting will be retiring soon, so don't expect him to accept any offers from both promotions. As of right now, there is no word on Goldberg. Finally, Ric Flair has stepped up and said he would love working for anything involving the WWF.

From Issue 72 of the WCW magazine - Bagwell trained at the Atlanta gym in which Luger and Sting were business partners, and the two veterans quickly took young Bagwell under their wing. "I was still really green," Bagwell says. "There is a lot more to wrestling than what goes on in the ring. Lex showed me how to play the political game -- and play it to win." Adds Luger: "If you're not careful, this sport can eat you alive. Sting and I just helped Buff by preventing his mistakes before they happened."

Rumor has it that World Championship Wrestling should be returning to Television on May 6 for their first pay-per view under the World Wrestling Federation Management. Since Sting is included in the 'top paid WCW wrestlers' I thought I'd post this up: Fusient has contacted top paid WCW wrestlers asking them to renegotiate their contracts as a show of good faith in helping get the deal done, such as taking a 50 percent paycut. At least one top wrestler reacted with hostility yesterday to a suggestion he take a cut in pay.

    Wade Keller & pwtorch.com

In a guest editorial by a PWTorch.com reader, Keith Collins, entitled 'Guest Editorial: 10 Things Bischoff Needs To Do To Give WCW A Fighting Chance', Sting was mentioned in two of the 10 things. They were: 1. Cut Out The Brand Names. Despite their age, people such as Sting and Kevin Nash would have a place in WCW if they were willing to elevate other wrestlers. In the past, however, Nash in particular has shown himself to be lazy, uncooperative, and arrogant - qualities that have only caused dissension in the dressing room. WCW should cut out this cancer and get rid of Nash, Dallas Page, Sting, Lex Luger, Rick Steiner, and Buff Bagwell. and 4. Re-structure the main event mix. Currently the only three wrestlers in the main event mix who are under 40 are Scott Steiner, Booker T, and Goldberg. To these three I'd add Steve Williams (not as good as he once was, but still worth a push), Lance Storm (the best pure wrestler in WCW), and Mike Awesome (when are WCW going to book him right?). As for the others currently in the WCW main event mix - Page, Nash, Sting, and Rick Steiner should be sacked and Jarrett down-graded to U.S. Title level. The addition of the new wrestlers and replacement of the old ones would have the result of giving the fans fresh matches to enjoy and of improving the match quality.

    Keith Collins & pwtorch.com

Do not look for WCW superstar, Sting to return to action anytime soon. The Stinger made it very clear that he is behind WCW all the way, but his injury simply cannot allow him to come back this early, contrary to what several other wrestling websites have been reporting.

Nash probably will not be appearing on WCW TV anymore until the re-launch. He will be another big name to return then. Booker T, Sting, and Goldberg are expected to return then too.

I was flicking through the channels late Sunday afternoon when I saw Steve Borden aka Sting doing an interview. It was for The 700 Club, a ministry out of the states on their Canadian Edition show. He basically talked about being miserable in wrestling for almost 13 years until he found Jesus and confessed his sins to his loved ones and to god, thereby saving himself. He also mentioned how he travels less now to spend time with his family, how some of the "guys in the back" are still waiting for the old Sting to return, which he said would not happen. He summed it up with saying that he feels that god wants Sting to help spread the message to whoever will listen.

When WCW relaunches sometime in late April, the 'new owners' are expected to bring back guys like Hulk Hogan, Goldberg, Kevin Nash, Sting and Booker T to feud with Ric Flair's stable when they come back on TV.

    Blake Wolfson & lordsofpain.net

When Goldberg joined Jason Barrett & Joseph "SA" Miller this past Saturday on WTBQ's "No Holds Barred", when he was asked 'who did you have your greatest feud with?' he replied, 'I'd have to say it's probably with those pricks up in the WWF. Seriously though, I don't think my feuds have been written very well. The feud with me and The Giant could've been epic, but it wasn't. Steiner & I also could've been epic, and while it wasn't last time, eventually it will be. I also loved wrestling Sting, but unfortuantely the fans don't think he and I hate each other enough so that hasn't worked out too well.'

    Calvin Martin & lordsofpain.net

Ric Flair was on 93.3 The Planet this morning. It was mostly just call ins and most people just told them how great Flair was. He talked about how wrestling injuries are real and talked about Sid, Sting, and Booker T and their injuries.

Eric Biscoff is planning on restarting the promotion of WCW in May of 2001. Sting, Booker T, Goldberg, Hulk Hogan, and Scott Hall are all expected to return to the company soon. Right now there are no confirmed dates on when the above superstars will make their re-debut with the company after eithing leaving, out on sick/injury, or being released from the company.

    Mitch Newton & wrestlingdotcom.com

When Bischoff was asked about the status of Goldberg yesterday during the WOL audio show, Bischoff said that there's a big plan for Goldberg's return that was supposed to be utilized after the shut down in the next few weeks. However since that shutdown was shot down, the current plan is to keep Goldberg off TV until they come back from the new planned shut down. For those of you who keep asking everyday, yes, Goldberg is still with the company and at the moment he's getting paid for just sitting at home. As far as Sting is concerned, he's still out injured and now going in the third month of being on the sidelines.

WCW is planning on revisiting it’s older days and hopes to return several “big” players in the upcoming months, most notably Scott Hall, Hulk Hogan, Sting, Booker T, Goldberg, and Road Dogg. Sting, Booker T, and Goldberg have all been sidelined with injuries, and despite numerous reports of Goldberg leaving WCW, all three of these men will be returning in the very near future. As of now, WCW is very short on “Main Eventers” as well as “faces.” Look for Booker T, Goldberg, and Sting to quickly fill those voids. Much like Russo and Bischoff did a year ago, WCW may go dark for a short period of time and then open back up with a blockbuster Nitro, re-introducing several of these big name players. It is expected that Bischoff wants to really spice up the talent roster as well as make May’s WCW PPV a spectacular event.

    Keith Wilcutt & wrestlingdotcom.com

It has been earlier rumored that Goldberg would be returning to World Championship Wrestling at Superbrawl Revenge, according to radio advertisements in Nashville, Tennessee where the event is taking place. According to several other television listings websites, including Yahoo!, not only will Goldberg appear at the pay-per-view event, but Sting will return as well. Below is the preview: "Featured wrestlers: Goldberg; Scott Steiner; Sting; Jeff Jarrett; Kevin Nash; Lance Storm; the Cat; Mike Awesome. " Keep in mind, this preview was added to Yahoo! and other sites just this week, while Goldberg and Sting have been out of the WCW picture for quite some time. This by no means confirms either to appear at the event, but certainly does support the existing rumors.

    Aaron Dias & wrestlingdotcom.com

There is talk that when WCW "re-launches," Bischoff would like to have a series of surprise returns week after week, including Hogan, Scott Hall, Booker T., Sting, and Goldberg.

From Mr Tito's Phat Daily Column - There really isn't much going on in wrestling today. The SHOCKING news coming out of WCW about their sale is now over, and the WWF has been very quiet lately on headlines. The only real headlines that could come up are possible returns by Hulk Hogan, Sting, or Booker T, which are all likely to be WCW. Booker T is due any day now. Hulk Hogan, when not making bullshit lies about being asked to join Metallica, will probably rejoin WCW soon. Just about all of the inside sources and WCW personlities on radio stations have said that Hogan will be returning very shortly. Plus, I just don't see Hogan fitting in with the WWF. I just don't see it. But that's just me. With Sting, though, he'll be returning in a few months, off his neck surgery. In an interview on WCW Hotline, he said that he was happy to be working for Bischoff again. Hmmm, I don't know... I've heard, somewhere, that Sting's contract DOES IN FACT end sometime this year. Cause remember, he signed a big 3 year contract in 1998, just after he won the World Title. If some WCW shill or official could confirm Sting's contract status, please do so. But what if Sting's contract did run out... what if he appeared in the WWF? Ever since Sting was the biggest star in WCW throughout the 90s, I've always wondered how successful Sting would be in the WWF. But Sting was always loyal, while guys like Flair, Arn Anderson, Lex Luger, Steiner Brothers, and EVERYBODY else got a taste of the WWF. But Sting remained. During the WWF sales talk, Sting asked wrestlers who have been in WCW on what working for Vince McMahon would be like. Could that be a sign? Well, I doubt it. Despite how bad it gets, Sting always remains loyal to WCW. I'd really like to see Sting make the jump to the WWF, now. Sure, he's past his prime and isn't quite the Stinger of old. But could you imagine the ratings on a Sting vs. Rock match? While we're at it, how about Sting vs. Triple H? Sting vs. Steve Austin? Wouldn't that be something you'd want to see? Sting, during his last WCW run, could still wrestle. Each time he wrestled Jarrett, he brought out the best in Jarrett, while other wrestlers seem to have bad matches with him. Do you remember the leaping clothesline over the top rope that Sting did on Jarrett? The real problem could be that Sting's neck injury might scare away the WWF from ever picking him up. But there are plenty of Loyal Stingers out there who would gladly follow Sting to the WWF, if he was to perform there. All odds, though, point to another WCW run, and probably another disappointing one too.

WCW's Chad Damiani filed his report "Full Disclosure" on the WCW website. Damiani stated "more WCW superstars of main event caliber are slated to return in the upcoming weeks." Automatically Sting, Booker T, and Goldberg came to my mind. If so, it will be nice to see them all return and to see how they will fit into the company under Eric Bischoff. However, Damiani stated Sting and Booker T have no return dates as they are still consulting with their doctors on their injuries.

Michael Tavares & wrestling.ign.com (thanks Dawn!)

Chad Damiani recently stated that WCW SuperBrawl Revenge would be chalk full of surprises for all the fans out there. We could see certain feuds swerve way off from what we have been seeing and current alliances to be broken. In addition, Damiani said that a few main eventers from World Championship Wrestling would be returning in the coming weeks. The names Sting, Booker T and Goldberg pop-up when you think about which large WCW main event stars have been absent from TV, so they are all possibilities.

WCW morale is very high right now despite continuing ratings struggles as well as lack of pushes for young stars. It's believed that backstage people have high hopes for Eric Bischoff and trust him, saying he will be able to put WCW back to number one. WCW is in need of top faces, and they don't have many at the moment. A few of their faces are injured including Booker T., (who is expected to be back in about a month) Sting, who is ready to return at any time now. The latest on Goldberg is that he seems to be upset at WCW management and doesn't look like he'll be back anytime soon.
