This webquest was designed for a Junior/Senior level High School Marketing class. The quest would be assigned following instruction and a project on both marketing research and advertising. E-commerce has become so common that it now warrants its own unit of instruction in a Marketing class and analyzing Start pages and comparing them to print ads has proven to be a very successful activity in my class.

At Nerinx Hall (which is a private, Catholic, college-prep, all-girls, 600-student high school in Webster Groves, a suburb of St. Louis) all students would have taken a Computer Applications class and a Public Speaking class before the Junior/Senior years. In addition, most students would have taken one or more of Pagemaker, Graphics, or Web Page Design classes.

Students must have access to computers with Internet connections and appropriate software, a color printer, and possibly a scanner and/or a digital camera.

Some of the activities that the students will perform as they complete this webquest are: reading, identifying comprehending pertinent information, analyzing information and web sites, illustrating information by showing examples, teaching their peers, comparing and contrasting ads and web sites, evaluating and rating web sites, summarizing their evaluations of web sites, creating a Start Page.

Looking at Missouri "Show-Me" standards, the students will:

Goal 1 - conduct research to answer questions and evaluate information and ideas; use technological tools and other resources to locate, select and organize information; comprehend and evaluate written, visual and oral presentations and works; discover and evaluate relationships in information, ideas and structures; organize information and ideas into useful forms for analysis or presentation; apply acquired information, ideas, and skills to different contexts.

Goal 2 - plan and make written, oral and visual presentations for a variety of purposes and audiences; perform or produce works in the fine and practical arts; use technological tools to exchange information and ideas.

Goal 4 - explain reasoning and identify information used to support decisions; develop, monitor and revise plans of action to meet deadlines and accomplish goals; identify tasks that require a coordinated effort and work with others to complete those tasks.
